Hi, I'm running Thief 2 and no matter what I can't get ddfix to work properly.
Ordinarily I can't see fog or stars behind clouds. With ddfix I can see stars and fog acts strange. It appears in the distance, usually vanishes up close and sometimes doesn't appear even when far away. "Wall of fog" I think you call it. It also causes FPS choppiness.
When using ddfix the cursor flickers while moving or hovering over certain areas of the main menu screen. While the cursor is moving the screen refuses to redraw at all, both menu and background animations frozen for a quarter second after the mouse stops moving.
The game flashes to the desktop instead of black the first time I start a mission after loading the game and whenever I transition to, not from, books/menus from game mode. During these flashes only large sections on the right and bottom of the desktop displayed, so probably it's a resolution error with the actual game displayed in the top left corner in window mode.
I should mention that whenever I turn EAX on I get a blue screen of death, ddfix or not.
Activating safe_texture_manager doesn't help. The resolution in both cam.cfg and ddfix.ini is identical, and I have the same problems whether it's 800x600 or 1024x768, my desktop resolution. I'm using Windows XP SP2 and NVIDIA 6.14.0010.7777 drivers.
Hopefully someone has had the same problems and knows how to fix this.

tglatsrt: Perhaps, your graphics card driver is not compatible with Thief 2 and/or Thief 2 + DDFIX. Did you try to install a fresh version from (
www.nvidia.com)?

Yes. That leads me to a different version driver that has the same problems.

BTW, what exactly your graphics card is? Does Thief 2 work without DDFix?

GeForce 6600GT... everything works fine without ddfix except no stars or fog, which I gather are common problems with (relatively) modern setups.

Alas, I don't know what else to suggest you :(. Maybe to play with different DDFix versions:confused:...

I may have to try that.
I forgot to mention that I'm working with multiple installations with shared mission, movie, and .crf files. Moving ddfix to the main Thief 2 directory lowers the quarter-second delay for menu redrawing, but it's still frozen during actual mouse movement and the resolution problems remain.

I put in an old Radeon 9000 video card and installed ATI drivers with funny results. Now the normal Thief 2 acts exactly like I said the ddfix version did, menu freezing and desktop flashes included. Fog, however, won't work at all. I've never used this video card to play Thief 2 before, so I don't know if this is normal or not.
Can anyone with a Radeon 9000 or EVGA GeForce 6600 GT video card (AGP, not PCI-E) say whether they have these problems?

What a strange situation:confused:... AFAIK, there is no need to use DDFix for both your videocards, because they are not DirectX10-compatible. I'd like to recommend you to reinstall the game.

True, ddfix isn't necessary. The only reason I installed it was because I wanted to see fog. Sadly fog renders weirdly even with ddfix. I've tried reinstalling both Thief 2 and my video card drivers, removing the old ones first of course. I still get the same problems.
