I've been playing Arx for a while, but have run into a bug which prevents me from continuing. I can no longer visit two levels of the game without a CTD happening when the level loads.
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to download this zipped saved game and see whether it's just my machine, or if it affects you as well. The zip file contains the Arx Fatalis\save\Cur0001 directory; I'm guessing that the directory contents can be copied into any of the save game directories... just back up your original first!!
I would suggest that only someone at least reasonably well through the game should do this, so as to avoid the possibility of spoilers.
The gate directly in front of you upon loading the game is one of the problems. The other is the original goblin jail area, which you could also attempt to get to (it's not too far away.)
If anyone from Arkane is reading, perhaps this save file might be of some assistance in tracking down the cause of this problem?? (and if you were able to tweak this file somehow so that the game stopped crashing, that would be brilliant!)
The zip is only 1.4MB, so shouldn't take too long to download.
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Sure, I'll give it a try. I've only got a 50k connection though, so I'll PM you after I'm finished.

Well, I tried it and it did the CTD once. The first time I loaded the save game and went through the gate, it loaded me into the walls. I couldn't get out. Don't know what to say other than restart.:cheeky:

Thanks for taking a look, folks... I guess I'll see if Arkane can offer any help; otherwise I suspect you're right, and a restart (or back to a really old save) is going to be needed. Ah well.

I think the game is best in the beginning. I didn't finish it because the exploring is the best part of the game. Plus, I hate those fast bastards. Forgot the name. Their bunker is the where I stopped. Judging by your save game, with my view of the game, you might as well restart. Don't bother saving everything like in the Underworlds. It's not really worth it.

I tried loading your savegame Shadowcat, but it won't show up for me in the "load game" screen, no matter which save sub-directory I put it in... very weird!

 I had to remove all of my savegames temporarily in order to "see" Shadowcat's one.
