I'm not saying it'll magically prevent the post. But it will remove most (if not all) potential benefits for the spammer.

Not all spam is aimed at actually being clicked, some spam is just hoping to be picked up by Google spiders so it'll improve their client's website's position on Google's result pages.
There have been instances of spammers adding harmless posts to a thread, only to edit them after a couple of weeks to insert a link with a comprehensive description. There is no way that that was aimed at actual living visitors.

I keep lolling every time I see a spammer like Milburn show up in a heated thread and appear to be smoking a blunt on Mars. You can tell it's a spammer because he's the least angry person in the thread. ;)
