Replaying Thief 1 and 2. Should I use Old Mantle?

I've never played with new_mantle disabled. Am I getting a more authentic experience if I play with the old mantle, or should I not even bother? Thanks!

New mantle is seriously advantageous in some situations but it does allow you to mantle over fences, walls and other locations that were not intended, which sometimes also allows you to climb out of the map, so for an authentic experience yes, disable new mantle.

I agree, as long as you are playing the OMs. Some newer FMs will actually be not complete-able without new_mantle, however.

This thread prompted me to give old mantle a try. Did we really used to put up with that? Pulling yourself up onto a crate that is much higher than you one minute, then getting thwarted by a waist high railing the next.

Still, adds to the challenge I suppose, when you can't just mantle through a square window in Soulforge, and have to pass through the mincing machines instead.
