I recall getting a bow from one of the lower levels (the one with lots of ratmen and the huge worm). It's in a rather hard-to-get cliff sort of place, I recall you had to levitate there. I don't remember if it's the standard bow or a slightly better one since I didn't use bows in the first place.

If my memory serves me correctly, it's located in between the two areas that you run to after coming from the direction of the worm.

Thread necromancy, but will anyone notice?
Anyway, my own experience with a nearly-pure Thief class (can't give too many specifics because it was quite some time ago) were not entirely good. A dex/skills-based character is very useful in the early going, but very trying in heavy combat. Fortunately, there weren't too many instances where you're forced into a heavyweight slugfest, but when it happens, it's nasty. The final bits of the game were especially difficult and not-fun, because my "real" combat skills were pretty meh, but the bow, which I was rather handy with, had almost zero impact on the high-up bad guys.
On the other hand, I played all the way through with that character and loved the game, so it obviously wasn't all bad...

Hey iv got a thief question here, is there any reason to use a dagger as a thief type character over a sword? Can you only backstab with a dagger or does it give you some sort of stealth bonus or anything?

Thieving is most definetly the hardest playing style(at least when compared to boring fireball-ownage).
I've completed the game with quite a Am "Garrett" Shaegar, having stealth of ~170(when wearing full "ninja"-outfit). Stealing Krahoz was a piece of cake, but ghosting the Ylside bunker was a bit more difficult(but I was successful ;) "Garrett" was not strong enough to wear Ylside armor, so I bought a Bless scroll which temporarily increased it(once the armor is worn, it won't drop off even when the spell wears out). It wasn't until the Final Battle when I put Y-armor on(even then I consumed something like 20 health potions). Long-distance sniping of the ratmen was also great fun in the level 7.
There's a lot of "thiefy" stuff in the game, like stealing the goblin treasury and then selling it back to them ;) One can avoid fighting Atok alltogether if his BOTH keys are stolen. Carlo has a stealable key to the castle's armory which has enough armament to start a little war ;) Polsius can be released without killing the goblin lord guarding him and it's pretty comical how the one g-lord in the same level can remain asleep throughout the game(one can sneak in that room without waking him up).
