I've completed Arx Fatalis as a fighter (with slight magic and lockpicking abilities) a few months ago; now I'm in the mood to play it again, this time as a sneaksie thief. My question is: How difficult is a thief to play when compared to a fighter, and what stats/skills do you recommend me to invest in?

Well you certainly won't have Garrett's abilities as a Thief in Arx, and if you decide in a fit of Thiefliness to go with the bow, be aware that there's only one in the game (developers are determined to deny us bow upgrades, damn it! :) so your weaponry won't improve.
You may also find you don't see many benefits from Thief-like stats until you get them to pretty high levels, but my memory is pretty hazy on specifics.

Personally speaking, I found the Stealth in Arx to be one of the weaker elements of the game. In itself, the stealth was useful in an rpg'ish sort of way, but I didn't really find the Thief path to be that attractive an option given the fact that there isn't any experience earnt from Stealth. Hence, I think that a better option would be to play as a Thief-mage.

Thief-Mage? Please elaborate. :)

My general idea is a character with low Strength and Constitution but high Intelligence and Dexterity; My most invested skills will be Stealth, Technical, Casting and Object Knowledge (Alchemy!), in that order ; Ethereal Link and Close Combat will cbe secondary.

Someone that sneaks around, but packs some fireballs as well. ;)

Current Build (I'll be trying it in-game this Thursday):
- Dexterity first, Mental second.
- Skills, in order of preference: Stealth, Spellcasting, Technical, Object Knowledge, Defence and Close Combat.
I'll aim at getting the Thief Armor (or whatever it's called, played it last time several months ago) and a good dagger.

Can you make arrows or is there a limited number of them in the game?
Shadowcat said that there's only one bow in the game, but I think there are two. The ordinary one and Lord Inut's Bow (which you sometimes get instead of Inut's Sword).

Cool! I stand corrected :)
