I was thinking about making a fansite for SystemShock2 (and perhaps BioShock) and I was wondering what rules abide to screenshots and other graphics saved from the game? Can I save some screenshots of enemies, items etc. or do I have to mail somebody for persmission?

Images will be copyright to the people who created them. You need to get their permission.
It would better if you created content for the sites already available. Or the games they apply to.

Yeah, but if I am to take all the screenshots myself and use them for the site wouldn´t that make me the owner?

Exactly.

So, in other words. I can use the screenshots I have taken in game and use them freely?

That would be the logical extension.
To expand on earlier advice, it would be a greater benefit to the Shock community and far easier on you to contribute content to existing sites rather than go through the trouble of creating your own site and infrastructure.
That, and you'll get more eyeballs on your work.

That is no choice really. This site has been something of a wish-project to me and now that I have it as a school assignment I might just as well make a good one

I'll stand-by with the validator.

Not by my understanding. Those screenshots consist entirely of copyrighted works, which belong to the original copyright holder, thus they own the screenshot. Unfortunately, you cannot really get around this except with games that are under a free license are are public domain. You can, however, use these images under fair use.
It's different with with, say, a photo of a real life thing, which anybody can take. Case in point: A promotional photo of a celebrity would be copyrighted, but if you were to take a photo yourself, you'd have copyright.

Screenshots' legality are judged by the host country's laws. For example, here it is legal - you can copy images for research or educational purpose, as it constitutes as "fair use". Somewhere I read it's the same in the US too, and knowing the less lenient nature of laws around the northen parts, I'd risk a bet swedish laws also permit it. So I would not worry.
