I've got good evidence to suggest that Piglick is a spambot.
And here I thought this thread was going to be about people spamming buglunch's thread in ComChat. ;)

Stupid spammers. display: none; works better than visibility: hidden; :p
Note: I don't actually know if that's what they used; I'm just trying to be funny in a really nerdy way.
Sorry for the posts Daveh; we're just trying to have a good laugh.

What was the topic of the thread?
mOdEtWo on 15/3/2005 at 19:42
David;
How can the bots encounter the code verification image at the registration page? Do you think the accounts are created by humans and then used by bots to make spam threads?
Seems like a long way to go for me.
David on 15/3/2005 at 19:46
It wouldn't suprise me. Once they have the cookies the bot is free to do what it wants.
Also, the vB GD images aren't exactly the most-obscured (for good reason!) registration images I've seen, so its possible that they've got a script to do it. I wouldn't underestimate the effort they'd put into this. After all, vBulletin is the most popular bulletin-board software and once you've broken the GD registration image you've got bot-access to almost all of them.

Aye, guess you are correct.
We haven't had problems with commercial spam, but have been visited by people who log in once, make a thread about something totally irrelevant with a link to a website, and the vanish. Guess that's what they do to make Google rate the website higher in searches.
So, how did they implement that tracker? Using html or a dynamic image perhaps?
David on 15/3/2005 at 20:02
[img] link to a directory on the tracker site.

Yeah, I tend to reply to any spambots that crop up in Comm Chat for shits and giggles. Wasn't aware it was such a problem; I'll not reply any further.

Dave and the TTLG's staff > the spamnoobs :D
And ok, I won't open such threads anymore. :thumb:
Btw, Dave, I've noticed that those spam threads are still listed in the Last Post tab in the forum overview even after they are not there anymore - I guess this is because you just move them to the hidden forum? If so, I guess anyone with access to that forum still sees the thread in the original forum (say, GenGaming) like when you move a regular thread - "Moved - Free consoles11!!one...", right? (just wondering)
