Alright, I've been putting together a test map that includes some of the basic concepts. Whenever I run the map (using the xport to xbox trick), the map runs incredibly slowly. Is this normal? I know that these editor versions are supposed to be slower, but it takes about 15 seconds to "run" across a room that is 512 wide. It takes about 6 seconds for a door to open fully. Just seems like something is wrong. There are 5 rooms that are 512 square.
FYI, I'm running this on a Dell Inspiron laptop with the mobile 6800 video card, 1 GB ram, 800Mhz FSB, and 1.4Ghz chip. It seems unlikely that it's just because it's running on a laptop, although I don't know that for sure.
Thanks1

Did you put in any zone portals? How about turning off the shadowcasting on surfaces (was my big problem when I first started).

1.4 Ghz? Your processor?
If so, that would be a major factor.

why are you using the export to X Box command?

That menu command is set to run a specific BAT file, so the idea is to create a BAT file with the same name and put in the commands to run it from the standard Thief EXE rather than the debug one.

I'll try the zones and the shadowcasting. The processor is 1.4Ghz, but it's the mobile chip, not the desktop chip. Not sure how to compare them since they are a bit different.
The main point that I forgot to mention was that the regular game played at a decent speed on the laptop, so I was confused as to why a much "simpler" level would run so slow.

Wasn't it mentioned somewhere that the T3main.exe file that is used to run the editor have more overhead and is therefore slower than the games?

Yes, it's got debug code in it, so it will be slower. 2003MINI you will need zone portals - nothing of any size or complexity can be done without them.

His processor's fine - it's the same as mine.
Hey that rhymed.
