Okay, I have a problem. I rescured Varven Sarethi long before I reached the point of needing to be named Hortator of House Redoran. I just found him and figured they'd want him at the Sarethi Manor, so I brought him back. Now, Father Sarethi says I need to defeat Bolvyn Venim in an "honorable duel" to be named Hortator. I looked at the spoilers for that quest and they only say that if you rescue Varven and get the approval of the other councilers then you get the Ring of the Hortator. Nothing mentions anything about an "honorable duel".
I've tried all I can think of to start this "honorable duel", but maybe I don't know how to do it. None of the dialogue threads will lead me to this outcome. I didn't screw myself by rescuing Varven early, did I?

The other councilors have to give you their support for the Hortator title then you can talk Bolvyn into a duel (by asking for his support iirc).
