Is it just me, or did the admins remove their avatars just now?
Risquit on 29/11/2002 at 03:46
You spotted that too?

Guess the decision was "noone has avatars". :erg:
ignatios on 29/11/2002 at 15:32
I noticed that too. It would seem that the discussion is over.
rachel on 29/11/2002 at 15:35
Well now you mention it...
:erg:
Well, ever since TTLG switched to vB there hasn't been a month without people crying and whining to have freakin' avatars...
It's better this way, I say. Everybody'll shut the f*** up at last. The admin's pics were cool, but if it's the price to pay to calm everybody down, that was the thing to do.
Uncia on 29/11/2002 at 20:40
Or they could give avatars to all and everyone would shut up out of happieness instead of guilt. Ah, but that'd be too easy... :p
[edit] Hee, check it out. This board doesn't allow avatars either.

Yes, those rows of images ARE his sig. ;)
And nooooo, this is just a joke, this doens't mean I'm hinting this would happen
because there are no avatars, yadayada.

How about an avatar rating system? Everybody can vote on everyone else's avatars if they wish. This way we might have a decrease in the number of "I'm bored" posts, and a decrease in the amount of work the admins have to do (they only have to check the lowest-scoring avatars).
In theory, this could work quite well. In real-life however...
(Well, there's only one way to find out, is there not?)

MM: That would have so much potential for abuse that it's not even funny.

From the forums where I originally come from, we had a post system for allowing avatars. You had to get a certain amount (250 IIRC) and then you could select an avatar. However, I don't think this place allows postcounts, so that does away with that suggestion I suppose.
sailoreagle on 30/11/2002 at 18:41
Jais: this place does allow postcounts. But you'd get so many n00bs spamming to get an avatar that you wouldn't believe it. (We've had people spamming to get rid of the "new member" title, ffs. And we've had people spamming to get the most posts in a year ever. We don't need more encouragement for people to spam.)
