Yeah sometimes I have to listen to something a few times before I really "get" it.
Too bad that didn't work with Watershed, but I probably wouldn't have liked Nevermore's This Godless Endeavor if I hadn't looped it a few times.

Only bought 4 cds released 2008. So here goes.
Nick Cave - Dig Lazarus Dig (not one of his best)
Portishead - Third
Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree
Einsturzende Neubauten - Jewels

Your list confuses me. I'd like to bash you for giving Metallica such praise, because I think the songs are subpar and without any real direction and the production makes youtube's quality seem like a heaven, yet I am compelled to see it in a positive light, since you put Earth as 1.

I'm not sure what you mean by that.
I agree that Death Magnetic's production is subpar; another victim of the loudness war, which pisses me off.

What I meant was that, personally, I think the songs were just average, not that good or bad, but coupled with the horrid production, it sank lower. Okay, it was better than St. Anger by far, but that's not much of an achievement.
I think it's a nice counterpart of Chinese Democracy, which is a really nicely produced album with absolutely horrid songs.

Oh I understood that much. I'm just trying to figure out what you meant by the Earth reference.

Just reading this thread, I realize how out of touch on music I am. How did I get so old so fast?
That said, I did enjoy the newest Portishead and Raconteurs.
I thought this thread was very interesting in that there are so many unique albums listed. In other words, very, very few lists contain the same names. The only albums I saw listed more than twice were Third, Oracular Spectacular, Fleet Foxes, Ghosts, Dig Lazurus Dig!, and Death Magnetic. This is out of about 150-200 albums listed overall.

That I can't really dislike your list, since that is a great choice.

Earth are great but not founded by any Nirvana member. That Carlson dude was just a friend of Cobain's and the guy who handed him that fateful gun. Maybe that's why you like them, you bad evil being.
