Wow, I think you're the first person I know of outside of the Pitt who even knows who Girl Talk is. And yeah, he's cool as hell.

I still like L'il Wayne's Tha Carter III.
That, and Portishead's Third.

I'm yet to hear a band that sounds like this, so I'd be interested if you could point me in their direction. Secondly, you're incredibly naiive if you think that no band you like has ever taken ideas from someone else. In this instance I'm not sure an early demo or a t-shirt really propelled them to being big, not to mention the fact that I really don't think they have made it "big" yet.
Uh.. Stereo Total, Chicks on Speed, 64revolt... if you like the beepy stuff, Covox and Lo-Bat. (both of whom they sampled from) or Bubblyfish or Receptors or Leeni. Besides, "taking ideas" is a wee bit different than pitching a track down and screeching over it. It's the attitude that pisses me off.

Does it make me a bad person if I enjoyed Fall Out Boy's "Folie a Deux" released a couple days ago?

Some additions:
Honorable mention: The Dodos - Visiter
Decent album, but not quite as good as AU's offering.
Best Album I Haven't Actually Heard Yet: Son Lux - At War With Walls and Mazes
Only just found out about this one. I've heard some clips, and it seems amazing.

Out of curiosity I just watched the "crimewave" video. This has to be the most uninspired generic electroclash I've heard since everyone and their dad was doing it 5-6 years ago.

Moving on from cluelessly dismissing fantastic music, it looks like (
http://www.metacritic.com/music/bests/2008.shtml) most year-end lists consist of Portishead, Fleet Foxes, and TV On the Radio playing musical chairs. Christ, my list is fucking orthodox.

Looks like I need to pick up Cut Copy and Deerhunter. I've to listen to Third several times, and while the music is fantastic, her voice just grates on me. And the new TV On the Radio left me cold.
But I heard Dig Lazarus Dig the other day (the song), and, never having heard a Nick Cave song before, I suddenly feel compelled to go out and buy everything this man has ever recorded.

I've heard of such things but you never expect it to strike so close to home :(

I probably haven't given it enough of a chance. And I'm determined to make myself like Portishead.
So anyway, how about some recommendations from the Nick Cave fans as to what I should be buying after Lazarus (also I watched the video and was very impressed with Cave's look and demeanor).
