Oooh thanks, watched a few 16bit gems now and while the reviews aren't as flashy or entertaining as, say, zero punctuation or AVGN, they are pretty thorough and informative often going into the history behind the game. Watching the EarthBound one right now and he's spending like 10 minutes talking about the NES predecessor and the marketing behind the game. Very very good stuff!
That's much of what I like about it, in how he goes more indepth into the makings of the games and about the companies themselves that made them.

I've seen nostalgia critic before and really dislike it - the entire persona/demeanor of the presenter just annoys the crap out of me. Always felt forced and "haha look how funny I am!" to me.
Yeah I can certainly agree. In many of the episodes he goes very much over the top. His battle with AVGN was quite amusing nonetheless despite it's overall fakeness. Despite the over the top-ness of the show some of the episodes are still enjoyable. His review of the TERRIBLE movie "The Room" was excellent. That one gained sufficient popularity on the net that the director/creator of the movie sent him a cease and desist. If you can track down the review on youtube it's quite amusing. His recent "top 11 South Park episodes of all time" is worth a watch also.
Nostalgia chick has far less of the over the topness that the critic has + she's pretty good looking which helps.
Of note on AVGN/Cinemassacre btw over the past few weeks he's been uploading a horror themed series of indie films he made in the 90s called "Snix". From a film making point of view their interesting to watch, seeing James Rolfe's over time improvement in his film making abilities. Amusing whenever he puts in a Killer Instinct (old super nintendo fighting game) tune in it. Very B-Grade stuff but interesting none the less.

Visiting my nephews today and my 6-year-old one caught me playing on the Yogscast Israphel map & talking about it with my other teenage nephew, and he wants to watch every episode now... That's not going to happen, but there's no easy way to explain that to a 6 year old that without a little trauma.
Too bad they don't have an extra channel with the language silenced out. I'm sure they'd get plenty of volunteers willing to put in the work for it & I bet it'd boost their total post-counts, but it'd lessen the post count on a single one. And no other external channel could do it of course. Such is life.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Still I get the impression a surprising number of pretty young kids are familiar with this stuff. A lot of liberal parents out there apparently.

Discovered a new video game related show today called Game Sack. Whilst it's not as good as 16 bit gems or AVGN it's still quite interesting.

Their 2 part special on JRPGs was very interesting.

If you like Adventure Time, I'd recommend (
http://www.youtube.com/user/BravestWarriors) Bravest Warriors. I'm fairly certain It's made by the exact same people. This has some humor they wouldn't get away with on Cartoon Network though. Episodes are ~5:30 minutes.
