I see that they mentioned solder joint issues that the 'fix' was to pop it in an oven, which on the face of it sound like it partially re-melts the solder, thus fixing the open circuit that existed on a given electrical joint. That sounds exactly the same as the xbox issue, whith its cpu/gpu solder joint issue... Although the mention of air bubbles and how that would effect the operation and construction of a modern multi layer circuit board is a new one on me.
Well if I was one of the lucky ones to have a ps3 repaired via the prat team, I would get my data off it pronto and then punt the bloody thing on eBay before it decided it wanted to live life again as a £250 doorstop.

Oh I see.
Price is £750 atm. Its dropped in a few places over the past few days so perhaps next month everyone will follow suit and someone will take a step of making it a liiiittle bit cheaper.

From the beginning I want to excuse for my english !!! I live in Bucharest, I own a Philips 47PFL9703D/10 and I want to share my experiences with this company. So, I own this product from 07.December.2008 and until tonight it was for 2 times in service and now it will be the firth time when it does the same problem - black screen although the sound and the ambilight are still working. I've used the LCD only 8 months (1 month stayed in service) and this is another problem because I've made a lot of phone calls to bag Philips company to take this tv to the service and bring it back after was repaired(it is a big LCD and the transport in and out of service is free of charge). This was/are the problems with this LCD model, and Philips ..... you can read more here: (

Now, a few words about the LCD (when it's working): 2ms absolutely great in games on PC (HDMI connection on Nvidia 8800) and PS3 , full hd movies and games are clear as crystal, and ambilight.......now I do not want to see a movie or play a game without it.
In conclusion a great tv made by an frivolous company. I hope this model - PFL9664H/12- it will be better because I want to change my tv with this one.If somebody want I will ask to local stores information about price and shipping.
If somebody already own this model please share with me/us THE experience with it.

Got the Sony 40W5500. £740 atm.
Sweet.
Watched Knowing on it just to see how the BluRay is. Got a PS3Slim to go with it too. Lovely picture. If anyone tries to sell me a TV claiming it will be better quality than this they'll meet the Shiho Nage - I don't even want anything better than this, there is just no need. At all. (Except 3D TV I suppose).
Good rec Ulukai, good rec.

Glad you like it.
As you have both pieces of hardware now, you might be interested to see what happens if you hurl your (
