Oh, thank you for reminding me!
(
http://www.wmkvfm.org/) Here's WMKV, the local nostalgia station that I can't get enough of.
They have a streaming audio link (click the "listen now" button) and it's a great station, though I generally avoid the specialty shows like Mystery Playhouse as they're not why I listen.

So far, Aja and Demagouge have made the best recommendations if you REALLY want to get into what Jazz is all about.
Growing up, my dad played Jazz records all the time, but I never really caught on. It did get my ears "used" to the sound however. This set up my conversion later in life. I was into alternative rock music during college and then I heard Pat Metheny (jazz guitarist). The guitar playing provided the "hook" I needed to really start feeling and understanding the music. I never looked back since. Pat led to Herbie Hancock. Herbie Hancock led to Miles. And once you get to Miles Davis, you can go ANYWHERE.
So, regarding my picks.
I made these two amazon "Listomania" lists years ago. The first one are albums for the absolute Jazz beginner. These are works that are very accessible, but not in the least bit watered down.

The next list is for those who have gotten their feet wet with Jazz, and want to delve into more adventurous material. Very little of this ventures off into "free jazz" territory, but it is very tough, intense hard/post bop swinging.

I'm pretty sure you can find most of this on MP3 in your favorite online music store. But the TRUE jazz enthusiast accepts nothing less than true CD fidelity!!! (Or at the very least, a losless type of digital conversion)

I've always liked Dr John though he's more blues than jazz.

Stan Getz. Although, frankly, I prefer his Bossa Nova stuff (and can heartily recommend the boxset of those albums that came out not too long ago).

I shouldn't have to say this (and I apologise if it's been mentioned already) but Kind of Blue (Miles Davis) is transcendental.

Beat you to it.
