AMD Radeon HD 6570 2GB & more modern stuff: Starcraft 2, Dishonored, Portal 2, Deus Ex HR, Hitman.
These games will struggle to run at the native res of the dell on the 6570, so you will have to run them at a lower res. The issue there maybe that the dell dosent downscale well or you just dont like running your games in a monitor res that isnt native...

That's definitely something to consider. Is it worth the extra money for something I won't be able to use most of the time? Thanks.

U2711 owner here. I'm pretty happy with it. If anything is really wrong with it its the glare screen is way too severe and actually makes any backlight bleed more pronounced than it needs to be.
I am quite surprised at how cut down the supposed successor is though. Since they're asking top dollar for the u2713 it's disappointing it doesn't come with the same vast connectivity, even if most people aren't going to use it (it's actually been very handy for me, though it wasn't a reason I bought it).
You might be able to get a u2711 for somewhat cheaper now, although I'm not sure how that works with the warranty if you buy an older model from a reseller (one of the nice things about buying the new one of these from Dell is the comprehensive 3yr replacement warranty. If you're paying that much it's only proper you get that sort of thing, what with the average lifespan of an LCD being a little over a year)
Side by side the u2711 is the better option and cheaper now, but it might be for irrelevant reasons, is my point.
As for games, I haven't had a great deal of trouble on the old machine. The scaling is mostly fine, but it's also somewhat game dependent it seems. Some do it better than others. Few can run Metro 2033 at high res even now. But if you run it at low res with all the effects turned up it looks very nice all the same.
If you're used to a smaller screen the bigness is a huge plus, even if it shows up more flaws in the image at the same time.

The monitor stand and general look of the monitor says it call, budget stand = budget panel (of the type used) so at a guess I imagine its e-ips. Bu8t a quick google later and it turns out its AS-IPS, which is very impressive for the panel size and the price. But the one descent review I found show where the corners have been cute -

The only caveat I can see is the issue the reviewer had with the AG coating, you would have to buy the monitor under the distance selling rule to try it out for yourself.

Honestly, there probably aren't many. At the price, you can't expect it to be the greatest display ever made, but whatever category it falls short in probably won't be anything anyone but color snobs and professional graphics artists will notice.
The only caveat is she'll want strong, low black levels. Unfortunately, I can't find any spec sheets or indepth reviews telling me how good this monitor is at displaying dark colors.

Thats where a VA based panel would shine, they have black levels now that rival CRT monitors back in the day.

VA panels have the best image quality IMHO, but the downside is the response time. I'm mulling over an Eizo SX2262W because my wife wants to do some high quality photo printing, but afraid of ghosting in games. I remember how bad the Dell 2407WFP and Samsung 244T were for games, back when the hottest 24" panel was a LG PVA. But maybe VA panel tech has gotten better since then.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm finally at the stage where I'm ready to take the plunge and replace my old 19" Mitsubishi CRT monitor and I needed some input. The refresh-rate function is going bonkers and no matter how I adjust it, it still keeps blurring the screen with those damned black wiggly lines - it's happening more and more often - but considering the monitor is over ten years old I figured something had to start breaking on it soon anyway. Dethy has suggested the Dell Ultrasharp line and I'm considering a 24" model, but after reading the customer reviews (on a Best Buy page for the Dell - UltraSharp 24" Widescreen Flat-Panel LED HD) I'm wondering if some of the customer comments regarding this Dell model's shortcomings will make a difference (to me) or not.
- no HDMI (Lacks Display Port interface)
- no higher Refresh rate
- slight backlight bleed at corner
- whites and text may appear blurred due to the anti-glare effect
- Gradients (that's all the poster said - nothing else in the 'What's not so great' category)
- The stand doesn't allow the monitor to go low enough (no info as to whether or not the screen tilts forwards or backwards, which would work okay for me in spite of the fixed-height)
I've also been checking out the Asus - 24" LED HD Monitor from the same site, but so far there is only one customer review wherein all the customer said was that this monitor earned 5 out of 5 stars for excellence. Customer reviews for the 23" Asus LED monitor were pretty much all favorable except for:
- Wobbly stand (multiple complaints on this)
- No speakers (multiple complaints on this as well)
- only 60Hz refresh rate
The Asus 24" is also about $20 cheaper than the Dell 24", but that's really not a big issue. Wondering how important the 'no speakers' thing is since I use external speakers all the time anyway; also, how the pre-set refresh rate might affect my games.
Since I rely on the advice from my TTLG buddies I really wanted to get your take on the Dell vs. Asus thing. Thoughts please?

Does your TV have HDMI? Then if/when you plan on buying that PS3 you were thinking about on FB, the lack of HDMI on the Ultrasharp won't be an issue.
Do you really need a refresh rate higher than 60Hz? Your monitor will be able to handle pretty much all games.
There may be some backlight bleed but it's mainly a case of viewing angles, and I've never had an issue.
The only time I've had an issue with text is black text on white or light backgrounds occasionally seems blue.
As for gradients the reviewer is out of his mind. The color banding on this monitor is almost non-existent; hell, my TV has worse color banding.
The monitor is certainly tiltable.
