Provided Scripts are also different.
There is a usefull script I love to use in TG that don't exist in T2 "Watchme", any human AI will create a AIWatchObj link to the objet when it is created.
So less work and pain to make special effects or original mecanics. This one being contained in gen.osm from TG, you cannot import it in T2 at the risk of creating severe scripts conflicts. I think this is a good reason to work with TG instead of T2.

That can be done in T2, but the FM forum shouldn't be used for technical discussions.

TBP/TG ambiant is based on gamma while T2 is based on luminosity, hence the better atmosphere with lights.
What the hell are you babbling about?

I think it’s an interesting question, because I don’t know the answer either.
Additionally it’s funny, because I’m one of the last authors who produces T1/TG FMs and I published one in summer (maybe that’s what even started this whole thread ^^‘)
I quite understand people saying that T2 was superior before newdark, even though I didn’t share that opinion. In the German version of Thief 2 they did some stupid things that weren’t a problem in T1, such as mixing different voice actors for the same AI. Or that the AI can’t turn their head to the enemy they face (fixed in newdark)
Also, I personally loved the Trickster mystery atmosphere more than the bright mechanist one. Therefore, I stuck with T1 a long time, before attempting to make FM in T2.
With newdark the engine should technically be the same, but even if we import the assets from one game to the other it doesn’t feel the same. I did it a while ago. I modded my dark engine from T2 to have all assets from T1, but something wasn’t right.
I guess it has something to do with the light calculation like Azaran said. T1 seems more darker and gritty than T2, which in my opinion suits the Thief atmosphere more. But I can’t tell if I’m just blind from nostalgia or if it’s definitely a thing.
But one thing is for certain: The scripting in T2 newdark is way better than T1 newdark. In T1/TG for example, you can’t even make proper optional goals.
In my special case I released two T1 FMs in the past, that has problems now with newdark or didn’t worked well in general (couldn’t finish in TG for example). Therefore, I decided to update those to make use of some cool things in newdark (like the insane polycount) and working with the good old T1 again gave me a huge motivation boost. Importing all things to T2 would have been too tedious for me and I didn't want to break my workflow.
Oh, definitely! :D Just don’t die while running into the wall too fast, please! :sly:

The only reason I can think of is because maybe more people own Thief 2, but I have no idea if that's actually true.
I guess that’s sadly true. Either the majority don’t have T1/TG anymore or don’t see the point to install T1/TG for the small amount of FMs.
I think I would reach more players when I would import my FM to T2, I don’t know. But even then, feedback is often rare so we can’t say for certain.
