Yeah, I think that's the main problem.
All the noises can be heard on other headphones too, but because they're not amplified, it's not anywhere near as noticable.

One thing I used to notice with my Creative graphics card is that it would start humming exactly when I upped the volume over 70% but wasn't playing anything.
