I was wondering if anybody knew of a fix to get hardware accelerated sound to work on a Realtek HD audio.
I know its onboard and I should get a new one, but I'm broke atm, so that options out, and it seems to work fine with other games, but none of the Dark engine/thief games allow me to enable hardware acceleration properly.
Thief 1, hardware acceleration option does nothing, option doesnt change, sound becomes mono until I cycle the channels.
Thief 2, hardware acceleration option changes to yes, sound becomes mono until I cycle the channels
System shock 2, same as Thief 1.
Thief 3, Hardware acceleration disables all sound.
Now more modern games all work with 3d Audio enabled (doom 3 dark mod for example), and thief 3 is probably the only "current" game that the 3d audio doesnt work properly, but I've kind of come to grips with having to jump through some hoops to get these games to work properly. With that in mind tho, sound is such a core aspect of thief games I feel like I'm not playing these to their full potential without true 3d sound. So I know this is kind of a longshot, but TTLG seems to be THE place to get Thief games working, so here I am, any help would be appreciated.
Thx =D

I take it you've tried 3DSoundBack?
Can't say I've used it, but then again, I've never really used the Realtek ALC889A in my desktop anyway.
I have found that the Thief titles can be a bit finicky with such utilities, though...in my case, ALchemy 1.00.08 would work well on Thief 1/2, but not DS (hardware acceleration = no sound), while 1.42/1.43 was the exact opposite (no sound in cutscenes, reverb was all whacked and improper). However, 1.25 worked with both.
