How is it not related to any of the tech we've seen? Compared to what is in Thief, it's a fairly basic piece of equipment. All gears, pulleys, and switches. Nothing fantastic whatsoever.
The plausibility of a bow like that is another subject entirely. But thinking something like it could exist in the Thief universe doesn't require a huge stretch of the imagination.

Can't help it, but the NuBow reminds me of Abigail Whistler's bow. Just can't get that outta my head.
Bet Garrett's NuBow doesn't have a bowstring that doubles as laser beam, though.

Be a damn shame if it didn't.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3018396/Misc/arms.gifI also thought of another thing. When it's collapsed, is it small enough to fit perfectly behind Garrett's back? As in the top doesn't poke up above his head, and the bottom hang long enough to get in the way of his legs? If it doesn't, that would make it a much, much better bow than the one he's got in the originals. It doesn't get in his way when he's not using it.

My only concern with the bow fitting behind Garrett's back would be if someone slammed him into a wall (back first) and the bow accidentally automatically extended. Might hurt.

Bowstring as firestarter, bread and cheese slicer, and for playing a double bass.
While the trilogy borrowed from Babylon 5, Thief[4] could've taken note of the collapsible weapon of the Rangers that was was truly portable, and as Dia recalled to my mind, extending it could shatter glass and knock unsuspecting opponents out.

Safety features come standard on collapsible bows. It's OSHA compliant.

I don't think it's unrealistic that this type of bow could exist in the world of Thief. I do think it's unrealistic that the Garrett we know (to date) would carry around a complicated bow like that - I think he'd go for something much simpler. He strikes me as not the most technically saavy guy - look how long it took him to buy a set a lockpicks. And why you need a powerful, compound bow to shoot an occasional water arrow? That type of bow seems taking out targets long distance, which (hopefully) doesn't apply to Thief. But hey, it's a reboot, so anything goes.

Those new arrowheads look kinda heavy. Might need a bigger bow to shoot them with.
...yeah, I'm reaching on this one. I do think it collapsing down to fit right behind his back without any stretch is the best explanation for why he'd need it, though.
Dia on 8/4/2013 at 04:15
I agree Brethren. My first thought upon seeing the new bow was, 'What on earth does Garrett need something that complicated for?' I've always basically just used the bow for water & rope arrows, & every now & then when a gas arrow was called for; also the occasional hit-this-button-with-an-arrow-to-gain-access in FMs. Looking forward to seeing some gameplay videos and hope they include target practice with the bow.

The more I think about it, the more I wish they would go with my alternate planes idea. That would cut out the Garrett wouldn't do this, Garrett wouldn't do that criticisms. Cut out the this is wrong, that is wrong criticisms.
They could have some kind of an intro with maybe a shot looking down on the City with collectors and other Tesla devices sprinkled around, zoom in to see Hammers as we would like to see them and city guards in their familiar blue uniforms patrolling the streets, continue zooming in to the inside of Garrett's home with him asleep in a chair, maybe some shaking and flickering with glimpses of the NuThief world(as what usually happens when spheres collide), Garrett roused from his sleep and seeming somewhat disconcerted then he(Stephen Russell)could say something like "Hmmm, I gotta lay off the jacksberry juice before bedtime" then him settling into sleep again, a bit more flickering then fade to black. Transition from black into the NuThief world. Could even have NuGarrett sitting in a similar chair doing something. Then pull back to show us the NuCity.
Might be a gaming cliche. i don't play enough games to know if it would be, but I think it would be a nice nod to us longtime fans and a nice way to honor Stephen Russell.
