Unrealistic magic? It was perfectly real within the Universe Thief takes place in.

The question here is not about realism but about verisimilitude. Magic water arrows are more believable and consistent with the thiefverse than realistic dry ice arrows.
You are both, of course, correct...Magical energy is its own force, just like gravity...and it is a
constant in the THIEF Universe...thereby constituting a reality in that simulated cosmological system.

The ThiAf team doesn't appear to have any real understanding or appreciation for the unique title they have. They're intent on twisting it into what they need it to be so they can understand it. They appear to want to ground it more in our "reality". The Thief world had its own reality, why not go with that one? It doesn't have to mirror our world. The game fiction of Thief was fun and a nice escape from our world. I have no interest in visiting the world they're creating.
Keep in mind, that part of the THIEF Experience is predicated upon the unique, magical, multi-planar interplay...manifesting within various levels of story and gameplay.
One will in time discover this unfortunate void, and experience the results of EM's reprehensible dereliction.

I want to agree with you, but considering the content of this thread, I think it's being used more as an excuse as to why people here love X, but think Y is the worst thing in the world.
And once again, EM never said magic was out of the game entirely.

Which is ironic, considering that you're making an excuse right now...in order to evade the truth of what is being said.

Vae. See this?
This is how you sell someone on your argument. From this point on, I will probably agree with everything Starker says.

I think they've actually stated that magic is out of the game - the only exception they're allowing for are some of Garrett's "mystical" abilities, as they like to call them, like Focus and Swoop.
I think they referred to "mysticism" and the world being not easily understandable, as if e.g. the people of The City still believed in the supernatural and acted accordingly, so that it is still present in some way – just not in the form of actual zombies traversing the streets.

There isn't any need to sell you on an argument that inherently wins...
Truth sells itself.
Yet, if you wish to spite me, due to lack of cookie bribe, then I will accept that as your choice.

Screw cookies, we have hammer haunts!

Okay, yeah, well, hammer haunts is not exactly a tempting bribe for me. Cookies, on the other hand ...... ;)
