Is there anything to glean from this video? Garrett having liquid CO2 under pressure in his arrow waiting for impact, or something?
See 1:30 and 2:18...

PS: Dry ice's heavier-than-air gas effects will blend in perfectly with all the fog rolling about the new Thief :)
Edit: Perhaps that's why the City has so much fog; dry ice is naturally occurring there and it's just slowly melting everywhere. Garrett will have a plentiful supply of dry ice :)

The physics of water arrows in Thief 1, 2 and 3 is just as problematic as that of "dry ice" arrows.
Unless you're going to rage on Thief 1 and 2 too you're being a hypocrite.

Yes. That is true, but I would phrase it a little differently:
The physics of "dry ice" arrows is just as problematic as that of water arrows in Thief 1, 2 and 3.
I don't think LGS ever said water arrows were realistic. I don't know if EM have explained why they've switched to dry ice arrows, but my impression is that they want to make the game more realistic, and this could be one such example. If anyone does have any quotes, please post them.

I think they just want to use a cool particle effect. Plus dry ice arrows won't leave any residue so in that respect they'd be a more "realistic" stealth tool. Using arrows to clean up blood was ridiculous!

Honestly jtr, if your goal is to mock them for dumb solutions, I suspect the joke will be on you.
Switching from unrealistic magic to unrealistic physics probably achieves their goals perfectly well. It doesn't need to be realistic, it just needs to feel like it's realistic. The arrows have never stood up to scrutiny. No one cares. I'd be surprised if anyone outside your little squad cares this time.
I guess it's possible they enter into some sort of uncanny valley with the game's fiction, but at this stage that seems like a long shot. I think you need to start screwing up your pseudo-science pretty bad before people call you on it.

Unrealistic magic? It was perfectly real within the Universe Thief takes place in.
I agree though, 'general' audiences either don't seem to care much about physics, science, or grounding things in a believable way these days. The Star Trek reboots are a prime example of cool over school and style over function. I nearly walked out of the latest one due to the amount of ridiculousness going on. I'm no University graduate, but I'm not completely stupid either. The stupidity of much of the science in those movies was heart breaking, considering it's supposed to be a future we could aspire to. Not with those physics, dear writers.
The ThiAf team doesn't appear to have any real understanding or appreciation for the unique title they have. They're intent on twisting it into what they need it to be so they can understand it. They appear to want to ground it more in our "reality". The Thief world had its own reality, why not go with that one? It doesn't have to mirror our world. The game fiction of Thief was fun and a nice escape from our world. I have no interest in visiting the world they're creating.

Don't. give. a. shit.
We've long passed the point expecting anything to improve. But that's
irrelevant. Someday you'll realize how bored with gaming you've been.

The question here is not about realism but about verisimilitude. Magic water arrows are more believable and consistent with the thiefverse than realistic dry ice arrows.
