Yes, I found that link (it was right above my thread) and it looks like I'm on the right track because I remember that posting.
But before I tackle this problem, I think I should install Thief 2. Thief 3 I don't think has an issue in that regard.

Everybody's computer seems to be different enough that one has to just see how things go. Some have no troubles and don't have to tweak anything, others struggle like mad.:tsktsk:

The FAQ that jt7 referred to has helped me solve the dual core processor/hyperthreading issue. Both ThiefG &Thief2 seem to be working without freezing.
I have an issue with thief2 being so very dark though. Cranking up the Gamma just makes dark areas green. I DO think there is a fix for this because playing Thief2 on WinXP (GEForce 8800 GT) was fine and clear. I don't see anything in the FAQ that points to my issue. Does the Thief Enhancement Pack solve this problem ?
One thing that I forgot to do when installing Thief2 was attach the addendum -lgntforce to the executable (setup.exe -lgntforce). Could this be an issue ?

If the games are running then you don't need the -lgntforce command. That's only to force NT to install the game.
You may need to try different drivers for your graphics card. A stupid question: Is the game still too dark if you play in a room with the lights off?

Yes, the game is dark regardless of backlighting, or lack thereof. :p
The graphics card drivers or the card itself can't be the problem because I haven't changed them. The only change is now I'm in Windows Vista 64bit. However, I do recall darkness being a problem before, but I solved it somehow, but I didn't monkey around with the graphics card settings themselves. Right now I'm going through my old Thief2 directory to see if there was any file inserted to fix this problem.

I have to make a correction regards the graphics driver. It IS a newer driver and it's 64 bit.
But this darkness issue I've come across before. So now I don't know what to blame, but I tend to think the solution rests in some correction or tweak that was referred to me a few years back. (I really should keep a diary of these Thief issues that I need to address over the years)

That looks interesting. I don't recall using that fix but the issues it speaks to relate. I'll try it out. Thanks sNeaksieGarrett.

I am using ddfix in Vista and it helps lots of issues. Don't remember if I had any problem with gamma before ddfix but I don't now.
