In the far N of the Vvardenfell 'mainland', between Khuul & the Urshkilaku camp, there are the Dwemer remains of, I believe, a telescope, & in the far S, a little NE of Molag Mar, is the Dwemer ruins site named Nehardumz, which contains the X-Bow fr Hell, locked & loaded. Stumbling across the X-Bow was very disorienting, about like finding a loaded missle silo in our aftermath. WTH was/is going on here? Was the telescope used as part of an an early warning alert system? Was it used as a ballistics range finder for the X-Bow installation? Do either of these hi-tech remnants get activated in-game or otherwise splained? Main-line plotwise, I've just taken the Corpus cure, so things are still mostly confused/confusing. TIA.

Well, the Dwemer were scientists at heart; the telescopes are likely akin to our own (though why they have a vat of noxious chemicals underneath, I have no idea). As to the crossbows, they were at war with the then-Chimer when they disappeared; those're probably just remnants of their defense systems. And nope, to my knowledge there's no real way to 'reactivate' Dwemer tech.

The "Mysterious Machine"s in various ruins, the airplane-thingy... these aren't part of some quest? You can't fire these up somehow?

I meant the... um... thingy... that's sitting outside one of the ruins (and I have NO idea which one). It looks like either a Howitzer cannon or an old single-prop two-seater airplane. Of course, as always, I could be horribly wrong.

If you are talking about the cannon thing outside the Dwemer ruin between Khuul and Urshkilaku (?) then I think I know what you mean... No idea what it is, or what it's for (other than decoration).

Hrm.. many of the Dwemer ruins have large metal crossbows (ballista is the medieval name, if memory serves) out front... might that be what you're thinking of?

Oh those things.. those are just Dwemer Bows. There is a way to use them (you just need a specific item - the Precursor Gauntlet) - I'll have to look up were you can find it...
