Back when I got rid of those 30 plus cats, I kept two, the one that chose me when he was a kitten (he was born 16 February 2010 his Name is Colin Powell, ah don't ask dammit), and a younger one that was born in March 2011 (his name was Lucky because he survived a freak accident and his two brothers didn't).
They were inseparable, like father and son, where Colin was going, the roof, the yard couch (I made one for them), they were always together, until the end part of 2015, Lucky got sexually awakened and he wasn't castrated so he went missing for days in the property lot near my house, it has more terrain and trees than I have and had a nice selection of female cats. In one of those feline sex escapades he got caught by one of the dogs who were inside the property lot. While searching for him visually (next to the side property wall inside my house) I saw him laying on the floor. So I asked a woman who was there if I could go getting him back to my house, she let me in and I brought him back home.
I had to bury him in the yard, next to the wall of the side property he used to love and visit.
It was the 1th November of 2015.
Man, time passes so fast is gonna be 9 years this 1th November.
Colin didn't stop looking for him, even if he saw his dead body, he just ran away scared, but didn't realized it was his younger brother's body.
Oh man just to remember all my cats and kittens, the good times.

I'm thinking, "WTF do I do with my life right now?" I feel like everything is falling apart: friends, family, love life, money, job... But at least I can still eat some muffins, so a win is a win!

I finally read a story by James Champagne and E was not prepared for it.

He's into neomysticism & demonology stuff, so I'd imagine it'd be in that neighborhood. He's easily the most voracious book reader I know, which has always impressed me. Guy gets through a book every week or less it seems.

Well, a couple things happened.
First, I read his story "XYschaton" in the anthology Drowning in Beauty which is a fantastic collection, highly recommended. It put Avalon Brantley and Damian Murphy on my Must Read Everything™ list. Only one story felt like a miss. James' is, uh, trippy and disturbing. It seems safe to assume it was placed last in case readers wanted to throw their copy across the room.
I've been away from here for an age or two, so while the name was familiar, I couldn't place it, kept thinking why the hell do I know the name James Champagne? In the story, he does something with the letter Z that kept ringing quiet bells, like I recognize this, but why?
Later, I started "Dreamachine" in The Man from Dusseldorf. Not far into it, he mentions being Sypha Nadon and my mind snapped backwards ~20 years so hard I had to put the book down for a while.

Y'know, it's been a while since we've had folks with that sort of presence that the mere mention of their names was triggering. You know what I'm gonna say next: make TTLG great again, bring RBJ back.

I don't mean to suggest it was triggering in the usual sense and I don't recall any animosity towards him. It was just a shock, like if I'd had a few conversations with someone then discovered they were my teacher in 9th grade.

Ah, I get it now. You couldn't place the name but then tracked it back to here, and now it makes sense why you'd come back after aaaages.
I actually thought this thread was necro'd after 20 years for a second, because that's the only way I'd normally ever see your nick.
I follow James on Facebook. (A lot of a lot of moved over to Facebook a few years ago.)
So he's in that group of people that transitioned from TTLGers to semi-real people.
But I could understand running into one of us in the wild without realizing it until later.
Kat Richardson is another one of us, Strangeblue, that started an urban vampire book Greywalker series, and I remember the first time I saw her book in the wild at the book store and that was a kick. I think she's been the most successful with the fantasy works. (IIRC Purah and Saturnine both had some fantasy books, but I haven't read them.)
If I'd petition to bring someone back, I'm tempted to say buglunch. Now that guy was chaos on a pogo stick* and somehow fits our times.
*Edit: Or second only to henke's (

Sypha Nadon? He Is still here?
demagogue on 17/11/2024 at 04:26
He's a fantasy author named James Champaign whose books you can find in some bookstores. But I don't think he's been back around here in over a decade.
