It's been an incredibly long time since I last played SS2, and I'll be damned if I can remember what all I've done to the install, but I'm having some pretty ugly crashing problems. Every time I go through a bulkhead, there seems to be a 50/50 chance the game will crash.
It's not like there's a single map the game can't load, every single map I've played so far has a random chance of crashing when it loads. I've managed to reprogram the quick-save slots, so I can at least play without corrupt auto saves overwriting the quick saves, but this is getting to be insane.
Could these kind of crashes be DDFix or widescreen mod related? I'm finding files relating to both in the SS2 directory but I'll be damned if I can figure out whether the game's using the former or not.

I never had bulkhead crashes with DDFix.
Are you using any mods? (In particular, any that use NVScript?)
Does the crash also happen if you load the game through ShockEd and, if so, what does the monolog report on the crash show and what it is the crash address?

I doubt I have any custom scripts, what kind of mods would they come with? All I can say for sure that I have installed is the Straylight patch I seem to think it's called.
I'm not sure if I even had ShockEd installed, remind me to try this tomorrow? Any test involving SS2 is going to require a reboot, and I should've been asleep an hour ago . . .

The latest versions of Straylight's ADaOB (v0.2.8 and up, I think?) use a version of NVScript.

I'm still using version 1, anything past that starts removing stuff depending on the difficulty level.
I gave it a try, and you think I could get ShockEd to crash for the life of me? I must have hopped through the bulkheads a good 30 times, nothing happened. I couldn't use a new game to test it with, ShockEd kept crashing for other reasons when I did, so I wound up using a save from a game that worked fine.

You mean the ICE picks? Those were put back in version 0.2.8:
Quote:
- 0.2.8:
- Ice picks have been reset to their original number to allow mêlée-only players to finish the game
And that means that it's not NVScript.
No idea, then. Try reinstalling?

Nice! I guess my bitching did some good after all. :)
I haven't got a clue where my CD is. After ShockEd wasn't crashing I'm starting to think it was some modification to the .exe file that did this, it probably was one of the mods. Maybe a very old version of DDFix?

I guess you could try updating to the latest version of DDFix (links (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121449) here).
Since you already have it installed, you should be able to get away with just dumping the .dll and .ini from the manual install into your SS2 folder and adjusting the resolution in ddfix.ini.

All right, thanks. We'll have to see how it goes next time I try to play.
Rather ironic that I posted for help rather than hit you up for help again . . .
