I always thought it was because they're clockwork, and its the pendulum inside them going back and forward that does it.:thumb:

Time is involved.
It's actually because all birds descend from those little bobbing-birds you put on the side of mixers (or more specifically, the alcoholic beverage that would be mixed and then poured into a specific glass/tumbler) if you live (and or lived) in the 1950's.
