Scots, I once investigated a late career in cooking/cheffery, but basically the utter grind and hours you have to go through to get to the stage of actually being a 'cook/chef' was rather offputting, considering I had family, and career advisors I went to said "You're kidding, right?". And I consider myself probably the best non-proffesional cook on these forums, I cook every night of the week, often cook for large gatherings, and have quite a reputation amongst family and friends that people are almost queing up to eat in the Pigs Kitchen. I really wanted to be a chef as a teenager, but I just never went down that road, was put off by the hours you have to work and such.
So instead, I blew $14,000 on a new top of the line kitchen last year. Fucking sweet.
how can I make such claims, through sheer elan, thats how

My boss and i have been watching Hell's kitchen for a couple years now as well as Kitchen Nightmares and the BBC version. Ramsay is fun for a while, but the same 'ol routine gets tiring.
He does have a few shining moments of hilarity, however. The rerun this week of the old country club restaurant had a number of laughs to it.

You see, this is the other option. And guess what we're doing when I come over to Perth...

The oven is probably big enough to fit you in

I thought that was GBM's post :o
We should have a cook-off to see whose top-chef :D
On a side note: I never figured you the cooking type, Piggy.
I love to cook too, don't do it as often as you, but I do enjoy it, and I fully understand the put-off of the grind of so many hours for professional chef, eep.

I'll defer to GBM as #1, but I'll fucking fight you for the number 2 spot.
(When I recently found myself sitting around without a job and a pile of cash on hand, I briefly considered culinary school. But I had the same reservations as you, even though I love cooking in a way that I don't quite love finance law, the thought of starting over as an apprentice after I've already served that time in one career made me say a big "Fuck no!")
Scots Taffer on 12/1/2008 at 09:02
GBM did a stint in a kitchen though, so I'm sure that breaks our completely arbitrary rules.
And yes, the whole idea of grinding it out as a trainee chef is about as attractive an ideas as grinding out a living a low limit cash poker player, but I'm missing a bit of passion when it comes to my personal interests at the moment and feel like I need something to fire me up. It's one of those times where I'm doing the "what if" game.

not going to read all the posts so pardon me if this has already been asked...but isn't that the guy from Hell's Kitchen?
P.S. I have cooked at 3 different restraunts and I will offer a piece of advice: if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. It's more stress than being a pilot to be honest, too much yelling and pissy people with short fuses and overloaded sick humour. Gets old fast, and drives you to smoke.

If you can't read the posts then you don't deserve an answer to your fucking question.
