N'Al: people using browsers don't see a video preview, just the video URL. See if you can use the VIDEO BBcode.

Looks like this is getting pretty solidly roasted by players. Mixed on steam, 5.1 user score on metacritic (4.5 for ps4).

Frankly, there's nothing to roast. The marketing sold it as something kinetic and insane, but its first few hours at least are pretty standard post-apo shallowness.
Ignore the marketing and it's very clearly exactly what you'd get if Doom and Mad Max had a mutant baby. There's weighty, solid shooting and powers coupled to a bland open-world landfill. I was surprised at how underwhelming the graphics were; I'd say even Mad Max had better-looking opening environments. I got bored of Mad Max's shallow loops quickly enough, but Rage 2 knows how to reward players with delicious weapon feedback and sound design. Enemies stagger, crumple, splat, fly, and explode in response to the things you get to do to them.
Outside of that, it's pretty much wander around and shoot things ad infinitum while ignoring what little drip-feed of story there is. It's not the gonzo Saints Row 4 in an id setting lovechild like I wanted it to be, and the more's the pity for it. Keep your expectations light, and it's decent.

Apparently the main quests are boring as hell, the desert world is unexciting and the towns make no sense. On the positive end, the side quests are great and exploring for upgrades and new abilities is fun as hell.
I still plan on playing the game and deciding for myself. Please tell me that this one does not suffer from the texture pop in that the first game suffered from massively.

I don't know where you're getting your information from, but the 'side-quests' I've seen are literally 'go to spot on map and kill X', while the main quests are where the set piece variety is.
They're using Avalanche's Apex engine, so no pop-in.
Sulphur on 16/5/2019 at 07:55
Yeah, I wouldn't put too much stock in that. The side activities are pretty much the same repetitive thing a la Mad Max's base takeover grind/convoy assault for salvage. There's not much variety or creative recasting of mechanics if that's what 'meaty' means for you. As excuses to unload all your firepower over and over again, they're just about okay.

The texture pop in was from id tech 5. It was a big issue in The Evil Within as well, though I don't recall any issues with the Wolfenstein reboots.
Sulphur on 17/5/2019 at 04:00
It's been more or less fixed with id tech 6 (though even with 5, I didn't have a large problem with it in Rage - AMD users initially had the most issues). Doom 2016 has an initial few seconds where textures are streaming in right after a loading screen, but that's it. Wolf: TNO used 5, and TNC used 6.
