The whole "we need guns so we can overthrow the government" argument is stupid. Unless a lot more Americans learn how to properly mantain and fire a weapon there's no chance in hell that we'd be able to force a regime change in this country. I guess it could happen if enough of the military leadership supported revolution (see: George fucking Washington), and maybe if the government broke down to the point where the average person on the street were willing to die in order to fix things, but realistically it's a stupid argument and it's not likely to happen in any sort of future that any of us can realistically envision.
A much better argument for the legalization of firearms would be to show that their uses in sport, harvesting/hunting, and self-defense outweigh any sort of negative that is unique to legal gun ownership. Banning them really serves no positive purpose, as it wouldn't keep them out of the hands of criminals, and it wouldn't deter the thousands of other everyday household tools that can be effectively used for murdering people.

Knives, hammers or baseball bats can cause fatal damage. They're far less likely to kill you than a gunshot wound though. And a general gun ban and control obviously makes it harder for criminals to acquire guns.
Then there's the whole small penis -> large gun thing. Seriously embarrassing.

Does that rule also apply to women?

Obviously it does to women with guns.

I see you're german through and through.

That's the nicest thing I've heard someone say about Germans on these boards so far. Thank you, in the name of my people. :)

I'm sure a ban on guns would have the same effect that making oh, I dunno, marijuana illegal would. i.e. if you want it you can get it, generally at the local high school if you're out of other options.
Of course, as with controlled substances, I'm sure the government would be fine ignoring the risk/reward of having a huge illegal gun trade going on.

Well let's see, guns and mary jane are banned here. The gun ban is handled far more restrictive though. I can get mary jane easily, that's true. But I wouldn't even know where to start about acquiring a gun. So, no. You can't buy a gun at the local high school here. lol

You could always build/sell them yourself. It's not like designing a nuclear weapon or something where assembling them is difficult/dangerous and/or requires something that's impossible to acquire.
Alternately you could just carry a machete around. Although that's probably a lot more conspicuous than having a concealed firearms permit and stuffing a glock down the back of your jeans. Given my own shooting and hacking skills, I think I could probably take someone down faster with a machete than a pistol, though. As long as that person is made out of foliage, anyway. In that case I'd probably prefer having a zippo and a small can of carb cleaner or belt dressing or something though.

You're grasping at straws now. Maybe I could build a gun myself, but a large scale self made gun trade would probably soon be discovered. Besides it doesn't even begin to compare to everyone legally having firearms in their house.
