I'd just like to say that I don't have a gun, yet have somehow managed not to be burgled.
Hmmm .... Fett, that's your cue. :laff:

Yeah thanks for that thought :grr:. Happily I reckon Fett isn't actually about to violate my home. Phew.

I just can't help but think OaC is turning into TTLG's own Mall Ninja.
Next up, how many bulletproof trauma plates do you need to stop those mexicans from stealing your tekken IV arcade machine?

Your home, your fish, and all the appliances you hold dear.

Hmm ... it's so often easier to mock than to think, don't you think?
Oh wait, can't demand thought ... that would be politically wrong, don't you think?
Wait, I can't say think ... dang, I just don't know WHAT to say that you would understand. It's like speaking a foreign language.

For someone who actually admits to reading Boudelaire (dead at 45 of drugs and social diseases, having sone nothing of value with his life) you're a bit under your inteliectual pretensions, don't you think?

How do you think it happens in the first place then? Every society, and I mean EVERY ONE ON EARTH developed out of exactly that. Which is not just my opinion - read something/anything about anthropology or sociological evolution.
Yes they did, Vivian. And how do you think they outgrew that? By allowing the armed bullies to kill everyone else and control the lot? Or did they do that by fighting back and killing/imprisoning their aggressors?
Let's use some common sense here. Would an educated person say that the change from highly stratified warlord-dominated societies, to the beginnings of equality and democracy, took place just because some serf had a long reasonable talk with some baron?
Right.
It is every bit as logical to think that the drug cartels will go away and stop shooting/garroting/blowing up/beheading people if we just all decide to lay down our weapons to suit some cheery picture people have of how peaceful the world would be "if we just didn't have guns." Would that have worked out well for the French in thier revolution? Would it have worked out well for the colonies in the American Revolution?
So I've just got to know - how do you think people killed each other en masse before guns were invented?
More importantly, why do you think they did so?
And most germane of all, why do you think they will stop doing so if guns magically disappear from the Earth?
As a genius in socieconomics, I'm sure you will have no trouble offering up a really well-reasoned set of answers to these burning questions.
Please don't disappoint me, Vivian. I would hate to think you were one of those people who go straight to insults in a difference of opinion, rather than engaging in rational discussion. That would be soooo ... shoot first and ask questions later.
