No, you're right. Skinflint is the freedom trader but his mission is a good way of getting hold of crystal. The village with the bloodsuckers is north and a little east of the freedom base.

I think I know where it is. Is the village the one where two Freedom members sit by a fire near one of the houses? I meet quite a few invisible mutants there if I get deeper into the village, they are the bloodsuckers right?

Yes,and search carefully, they are elusive and there is a really great stash in a basement of one of the houses.

I found another village, with bloodsuckers and two stashes. I killed the bloodsuckers without spending too much ammo and found Urchin in a car there. That artifact has -30 radiation, I was damn lucky.
I also got a SPAS14 pump shotgun off a zombie in the radioactive area so those bloodsuckers in that village will get a very painful welcome from moi. :sly:

Red Forrest is a very irradiated area, yes, but I have always been able to find a safe path or run through a hotspot without being significantly irradiated. I'm a good pathfinder!
Any sniper rifle comes very handy in this area, luckily you can find some there if you haven't brought one with you. It just may be very tricky to take down the first Monolith sniper.

I got him on my first try with the GP37(?) scoped assault rifle, one burst and he was dead.
I have in total -100 radiation, so even if I run through a hotspot the radiation will go away very quickly out of my system when I'm in a safe spot.
Me and the Monolith are getting along well. I'm collecting and backtracking to the very beginning of the level where there is a stash, I put all guns and extra ammo & items in there. So far I have 3 - 4 sniper rifles and 13 ammo and a RPG + 1 missile. That's just the beginning of my collection there. :p

In Red Forest, when wandering off the beaten track:
Does anyone know what the deal is with the pseudodogs that appear out of nowhere and dematerialise when shot? I don't think it's at all fair that they get to sink very corporeal teeth and claws into me, while they can fizz out of my plane of existence when I retaliate. I did go hunting for some possible source, but gave up due to magic dogs and radiation poisoning.
Also, a very subtle semi-easter-egg in the half-buried safe stash which made me chuckle: a pistol, one round of ammo and a bottle of vodka. Obviously some kind of suicide kit :joke:
I had the same problem. I eventually thought that they were a product of our character's imagination, due to the effects of the scorcher. Anyway, because of them, I gave up on exploring that area. Got tired of being ripped apart.

Absolute ditto.
Got fully tired of exercising my "always explore off the beaten path" mentality when being half gored to death by magic-trick-perma-hounds + radiation sickness.

One thing I found annoying was the illusion dogs' miraculous ability to climb ladders.
