Yes. The illusion is what it's all about. It is actually pretty close to being a great system for me, but the people just standing around is just an annoying little thing in the back of my head.

I'm not sure people aren't just complaining about lack of animations here. I mean if the smithy in Chorrol fired up the furnace, smacked some steel with a hammer, and mopped the sweat off her brow occasionally, I'm guessing that'd satisfy you. Exactly the same schedule, but with added animations to increase the illusion of realism.
It doesn't matter to me one way or another, but if they're going to claim radiance, their workday better not be 'stand here for 13 hours'.
Do I care? Not really, but if someone makes a thread about RAI I'm sure going to tell them why the RAI has failed to deliver what U7 did a decade ago.

Maybe all the radiant AI needs to show it's full potential is a far better hardware? Processing a real-time, believable AI behavior for every single AI in sight and far beyond sight is a real load of work for the CPU.
That said, I think we all may agree that current stage of development of a non-scripted arteficial intelligence is still in a crib and scripted AI behavior still looks more natural. I am also disappointed that the AI doesn't do things like in E3 video. The potential is there thugh and we may see it's next stage in the next TES title perhaps. Oblivion's AI is nothing truly revolutionary... still it's a step forward.

I came across that mod but I haven't dled it so far. Have you tried it out Kaleid (or anyone else)?
At least the latest version is November 2006 so hopefully they will keep working on it! :D

I've tried that mod and seems ok but there's the WIP AI overhaul mod being worked on so hopefully the AI will be a hell lot better

Ultima 7 NPCS > Oblivion's
Agreed. Its amazing that after all this time that game still had more lifelike NPC's...but I think Oblivion's did a good job considering the size of the world and the number of NPCs.
The biggest joke I thought was the stupid persuasion mini game. They claimed it was going to make interaction more realistic...but it reminds me of playing the game Simon more than talking to somebody. I think they could have spent their development time elsewhere, although I guess it does make getting a character's disposition up a little less mundane than just clicking admire over and over and over and over again.
