Quoting the entire post above yours has nothing to do with a language barrier. What, in other languages do people reiterate the entirety of the last thing that was said before replying to it? Pfffft.
Most people just assume there's this layer of stupidity that makes people go all duhhhh when talking in some language other than their native tongue.
Sometimes though, this happens to be true.

What's wrong with Scottish money? We've got 3 £20 notes to choose from.
I don't give a crap. It's purely practical and many places in England don't accept them, especially near the border for some weird reason. I think its because they are easier to forge than real spondoolicks. Besides, English money looks like it MEANS BUSINESS whereas Scots notes, whilst interesting, are a little bit meh. I mean no Guy Ritchie boss would accept a bag full of Scots money would he, even if he were a Glaswegian heroin lord?
Yeah Shug, Scots is a big baby. S only teeth ffs.

I accept that this annoys the hell out of you, but in a fast-moving thread where I know that there's a fair chance there'll be 2-3 new posts in between my reply and the post I've replied to, I don't see what's the problem with some judicial quoting under such circumstances. Obviously it's still pretty silly to quote five paragraphs only to add a one-line comment, but I don't see the problem with applying some common sense to this both ways. To be honest, if you get this riled about every reply that quotes a post just above, even if it's in a fast-moving thread and it's a one-line-quote-one-line-reply post, then you need to get out more and do something fun with those 3x£20.

judicial quoting
This right here would be fine.
And the 3x20 is just spare floating around fyi. Its part of what I call my whim money.
dj_ivocha on 6/12/2009 at 18:43
Well, if GBM/Dave won't accomodate you, send the 3x20 to me instead - in return I'll pledge never to quote a whole post on TTLG.
Do this for a few thousand more people and you'll basically get what you asked for, except in this case you won't need to lift a finger to moderate posts, since no posts will need moderating.

Even so, imo it's simpler to just reply and then add the quote in later if someone else got in before you.
