However, I am now the worst anti-smoker and I can't even stand to be near anyone when they light up. Has anyone else here experienced this?
God, yes. When I'm with a bunch of smokers I'll start worrying that I'm inhaling enough to get the addiction started again. The strangest thing is I cannot BEAR to touch a pack of cigarettes. If someone asks me to toss them a pack I have to use some sort of tool. I get actual feelings of dread and anxiety.

It's a form of meditation. There's a heightened sense of moment as you puff on a tab.
Nicotine controls your adrenaline levels and so heightens awareness and clarity. You get the same kind of buzz you would get if you were in danger or if someone gave you a fright.
All the above is true!.In a lot of ways.It is highly addictive I was smoking for years. I have not got over it and I have lapsed too.
It does relieve stress too. When I had bad depression,I need them as an extra crutch. In reality it is a "Cop Out". They do calm though when stressed and as addictive as other habits,or worse. Even the health scare I had, That had stopped me though. The substance in Tobacco have something in them that make you crave for them. I was smoking a long time. It is a hard shell to break. I will though.

I actually have a reasonable excuse for starting.
I was about 14 and a bit of a naughty thing. Couldn't afford to buy tickets to see Def Leppard (don't judge me, very few international artists came over here back then!) so we broke into Ellis Park stadium. The plan was to get there 36 or so hours before the concert and hide in a storage garage until we could sneak down into the arena. Of course we hid in the garage and were promptly locked in by a security guard doing his rounds.
We were stuck in an empty concrete garage in the middle of winter for about 24 hours. Cold, hungry and scared out of my mind. My (much older) friends had amongst them 4 boxes of cigarettes and that was about it, and smoking did help the cold and hunger a bit.
Granted I kept going because it made me look cool.

Money, eh? Congrats. I've just gotten mildly addicted to poker. I've played 4 home games and after I actually learned how play (2 games), I won the third and got schooled in a horrible bluff on the 4th that put me firmly on tilt (didn't help I was mildly drunk at the time).
I've just loaded up 100 bux into an online poker account to play some sit and go tourneys over the Christmas break for funsies. I've been playing the freeroll ones for some time now and almost always end in the money or on the bubble, so I'm confident.

And I smoked for a similar reason when I was 14, peer pressure, bad social group, teenage rebellion etc, I smoked for about three-four months and then I realised it was dulling my sense of smell and taste, I promptly freaked out and quit. It didn't hurt either that my grandfather died from smoking.

I started smoking because my dad smoked (& still does). He drank & smoked constantly, so I ended up doing the same. After about 4 years of light smoking, I gave up cigarettes in favor of cigars (the taste was much better). As I got older, health problems made me limit my intake of cigars & alcohol. I still have a cigar now & then, usually with a good single malt scotch, but I, too, am revolted by the smell of cigarette smoke, particularly while I'm eating.

My grades are suffering... my belly looks like I'm pregnant...somone tell me it goes away after 6 months or something I don't think I will be able to make it through finals week if this keeps up:(

I don't know, that sounds pretty weird if it's been three months. Perhaps you should see a doctor?
On a side note: Thanks to stories like these, I cannot even bring myself to have a single drink. Thanks, Internet.
Lastly, was it really necessary to necro an old post?
D'Juhn Keep on 31/3/2008 at 01:07
Yes, I'd say it is better to make a post in a related thread, even if it's old, than start a new thread with very minimal content.
I found this "For tobacco users trying to quit, symptoms of withdrawal from nicotine are unpleasant and stressful, but only temporary. Most withdrawal symptoms peak 48 hours after you quit and are completely gone in six months." so yeah, just hang in there!

I guess that's just as well since you're 15

Nice substitute addiction you've developed there, Thief13x. I remember when I quit and started drinking up to 12 espressi a day... You might want to try water like Shayde did. But who am I to speak on this issue, I'm a smoker.
The only way out I see for myself is a girl who doesn't smoke. Then it would be either kisses or cigs and that's pretty easy to decide.
