I've just started playing morrowind (again), from the start as I completely forgot where I was last time.
I'm skint, of course, and I'm not sure of the best way to acquire a decent amount of gold initially. I think last time I got away with nicking something valuable, somehow...
I know one can just cheat with the console, but that's a little too easy.

Potion of invisibilty and a quick trip too Ghostgate. In the tower of dusk there is a almost full set of glass armour lying on a shelf near a merchant. Use the potion too steal it.

True, true. Potion of Chameleon could possibily work better. If you think that's a bit TOO easy and a bit too much, there are other ways.
The Sword of White Woe can be found in Balmora in a Guard Tower, ontop of a dresser. Often considered a n00b weapon, it fetches a high price. 12,000 to 16,000. You can also (apparently) find another one in a Guard Tower in Suran. I can't remember ever seeing that, but I'm certain it's there. You can also find another Ebony weapon free for the taking, but this one is in the wild a bit.
When you first get to Balmora (walking from Seyda Neen) you will see the Obelisk announcing you are now entering Balmora. Then you will cross a bridge, a small island, and another bridge. Follow the river that these bridges straddle inland on the side closest to Balmora. This will take you to Odai Plateau. Once you get to the top (a path becomes evident and eventually brings you to the flat top of the mountain, hence the name 'plateau'), look in the South-West corner of the plataeu among some boulders. You should find an Ebony Shortsword.
Two Sword of White Woes valued at around 14,000 and an Ebony Shortsword at 10,000. That's a good 38,000 gold. You have to work for it, but atleast you'll feel better.
Or you could do the easy way and steal from Ghost Gate... but I always think it's a bit too easy... may as well use the console.
If you want so much money you don't know what to do with it, remember:
Each House Canton in Vivec has a Treasury. The Dawn and Dusk buildings at Ghost Gate also have a treasury. I'll let you find their keys (or alternate ways in) by yourself :thumb:
That's probably the most helpful thing I've posted in the last four months. I think I'm in a dangerously good mood. I even checked my info this time.
I am pretty sure the Suran one is underneath a bed, though this is just from memory.
