I've found another tweak for the
user.ini, which in conjunction with a shortcut in the saves folder means that testing different versions can be a little quicker:

Just take the semi-colon off of the version you want. It might throw a fit if more than one is uncommented, I haven't tested.

or you could make a bat that backs the original up and temporarily copies the wanted version to replace it
