Should be able to simply grab the crate then, and then drop it in crowbar range, since pickup is determined by collision cylinder, and there's no way a crate-dropped item has a bigger collision cylinder than the crate itself.
I'll admit the engine is a tad wonky, but even then, exceptions to this rule should occur...basically never.

I'm not trying to be confrontational, I just really don't understand.
I've done that, albeit only rarely. Is it worth crossing the extremely (at least in Realistic) radioactive room under the Paris high-rise for a couple crates? Shoot 'em and see if you even
want what they drop.

You do have a valid point there.
In which case then... umm yeah, I don't know! :p

Sorry for dissappering but I was busy doing a 100% zelda series run which I am up to my last game left. Here are the skills I plan on using.
Pistol-For obvious reasons
Rifles-because I like to pick them off from a distance and shotguns are always nice and you can turn the make the assault rifle into a good stealth weapon
Low-tech-For the dragon tooth sword
Lock picking,Electronics,Computers-For obvious reasons
The rest I am not interested in can be supplemented by augmentations
Are There any other good choices I didn't list or see the use for.I am having a hard time deciding because I am indecisive.I am doing it on easy because I am still a noob and the last run is the first time I beat the game without cheats and it was a blast, then again I haven't used cheats in any game for a really long time.

Environmental training is one of the best skills in the game. It's cheap, and when mastered can make you as good as invincible with a couple of augs active. Honestly, if you thought ballistic armour was crap, think again.
Maxrebo6 on 26/1/2010 at 04:59
Oops I forgot about environmental training, that is pretty useful.I cant think of a use for the rest of them in my play style or to use in a latter play through.I trying to think which stats to pursue in the beginning because I know some I can wait till I get the experience point because some are more important earlier on.But I cant decide my starting stats.

I've often tried to do a run with environmental training, but I always give up on it. You need inventory space for those one-use items which even maxed out just don't last that long if you're sneaking, exploring, conversing, and so on. It always seems to me to be easier to load up on weapons.

....right. So, given that I can think of...actually no instances where a crate is poised somewhere unreachable such that shooting it will cause its contents to drop to a reachable place, and that the game has no physics for momentum transfer to dropped items (so no grabbing shit out of hard to reach areas with explosives or anything), what exactly is the utility of being able to shoot crates?
I'm not trying to be confrontational, I just really don't understand.
I'd like to keep a pistol in my melee inventory for the convenience of shooting a crate that I might not want to take the long route to reach but otherwise in plain view, how's that?
Have you played Deus Ex or what? It happens all the time that crates sit in radioactivity, or under electric arcs, or whatever environmental hazard.
DDL on 27/1/2010 at 11:26
So...do you then go and actually get the items? As in, you're carrying a gun for the sole purpose of saving yourself half a second of "melee swing, crate smash!" before grabbing something, or are you just shooting crates so you can see what you missed?
Because every way you look at it, you STILL HAVE TO GO GET THE STUFF, which means sticking yourself in exactly the same place the crate was, so...shooting it seems irrelevant, unless it's solely to check whether a crate contains something you actually need (in which case, why not say that), or to save yourself half a second of enviro damage, which is....impressive dedication to damage limitation.

I
did say that, but... I have to say, I didn't think it needed to be spelled out.
I mean, seriously, you've had this whole freak-out break-down about this guy shooting crates, is it really all because the notion that a lot of the crates in Deus Ex contain stuff a given player doesn't want never ever crossed your mind?
