So yeah, I got Morrowind GOTY about a month ago. (I know, I am a little late.)
Rightnow, I have an urgent question about it which UESPwiki doesn't answer sufficiently for my taste. My level 26 character is a Telvanni "Spellwright"; my magic skills limit me there rightnow, and I haven't done many duties after this advancement. I stalled the Telvanni questline when my magic skills just weren't sufficient for further advancements.
However, my mainquest urges me now to become the Telvanni Hortator, and a certain archmagister seems to be in my way.
I realize that I'd have to kill him to get the final promotion in the Telvanni ranks anyway, so it'd probably not hurt to kill him rightnow. However, I am not sure about this. So, here's my question: Should I stall my mainquest at this point, work on my mysticism to be able to get the further advancements in the Telvanni ranks and do their quests; or can I just kill him now and suffer no negative consequences if I work on my Telvanni quests later on again?
Well... I don't even know if I can theoretically kill him anyway, because I am not sure how highlevel his two dremora guards are. Maybe I should just raid some more dungeons, work on the other faction questlines or travel to Mournhold or whatever.

It seems that the House Telvanni questline is perfectly completable if you have already killed Gothren during the Hortator main questline; you will however gain greater Reputation by doing it the other way around, so that might influence your thinking.

If reputation is indeed the only thing that is affected, then I could really just kill him now. As long as Aryon isn't promoted when I kill Gothren now and I'd then have to kill him as the new archmagister for the final quest for the Telvanni. He told me that he'd gain from Gothren's death, so what do I know?
But I think I'll just stall both questlines now and do something else for a while. There are so many dungeons and other quests left that I could clear out with Soultrap&Absorb Health that the Mysticism should increase nicely.
It's just that I was sort of on a rampage with the mainquest during the last couple of days and then I crashed into this Gothren/(conflict with Telvanni?)-roadblock.

He would 'gain' in that the new Archmagister (i.e. you) would be friendlier to his interests. If you kill Gothren early then Aryon just promotes you straight to Archmagister at the end of the Telvanni's House questline instead of making you Magister first - you don't have to fight Aryon for the title (perhaps he has too many enemies in the House to take the position for his own).

That's good, because I sort of like Aryon. :)
I like all of those Telvanni nutcases, except perhaps the grumpy old man in Sadrith Mora. And except Gothren.
... you'd think that Gothren might already have gotten the idea how I handle the Hortator issue by looking at the recent events at the Hlaalu and Redoran councils, though.
The Dark Brotherhood attacks from Tribunal stop after a while, right? I have a "DB attacks delayed" mod, which meant that they only really started very recently, but it seems to be over already again. I farmed about 15 sets of DB armor of them - the cowards attacked me with 2 thugs at once after the first contact.

The Telvanni House is my favorite. They have the most story driven quests of all three house, IMO. Later on, things get even better.
(
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tribunal:Dark_Brotherhood_Attacks) UESP has the answer to when the DB attacks end. 15 is the limit, apparently. I never waited that long, though. Just by talking to Apelles Matius in Ebonheart will do the trick, too.

I have to say that fighting an assassin with a rusty iron dagger is fun. It's even more fun when the poor guy spawns in the slave cage in the cave near Seyda Neen.

Well, actually, I wanted to farm some more DB armors from them... but if the attacks are over then I could as well wander off to the guy in Ebonheart. Maybe there's more of them on the mainland!
As for why I'm using that "DB attacks delayed" mod instead of having been attacked since level 1 - I didn't use that mod on my first attempt at this game and I found it quite disturbing to be attacked all the time while roaming around in the dwemer ruin near Fort Moonmoth. It also makes absolutely no sense at all that someone (whoever it may be) hires some badass assassins to kill some lowly level 1-2 noob. Their armor was also totally unbalanced at that point.
Well, anyway. I went onto a Telvanni quest rampage and leveled up my mysticism until it was at 70 (the other magic skills are still in the nether regions)... and to my surprise, that wasn't a problem when Aryon offered me the choice between Master and Magister, or when he promoted me to Archmagister not much later. I had thought that I'd need mysticism at 80 for Magister and at 90 for Archmagister, but it just didn't matter.
Gothren was quite a pushover. I used Aryon's Helper, taunted Gothren into combat, stabbed him with a jinkblade until I got lucky and paralyzed him, and then I sucked the life out of him with my custom absorb health spell. My daedra allies took care of his dremora allies. And then I fled as his two human guards came and joined in. No bounty, no expulsion. Just an instant promotion to Archmagister. :ebil:
I think I'll try to mop up some lose ends, finish my current mainquest and some sidequests and then move on into Mournhold next. Curiosity and need for grand soulgems win over the urgency of fulfilling any prophecies. I'm not too keen on being the cause for a renaissance of daedra worship among the dunmer - that will quite obviously be the longterm outcome of the activities of the Nerevarine, and I don't think that this is necessarily a good thing.

So how did you feel about how the main quest turned out?
