[EDIT] Ah, on second thoughts, sod it. Post deleted, no point. I'm sure this will feed the conspiracy theorists even further!

:laff: I love a good conspiracy, much more fun than the reality.

@Ashpolt - I really would have like to know what you said, but it's up to you...
Not sure why all the EM guys feel the need to use the term "conspiracy" - like the Illuminati are involved or something. No one's saying that.
What I am saying is this - if you bring in a bunch of "fans" to play the new Thief game, for the purpose of reporting back what they saw to the community, invite Thief fans to go! If you do anything other than that, it demonstrates that you're not really looking for true feedback for the community. I've seen the "rewarding your employees" argument a few times too - that doesn't jive, you could always do that elsewhere on the side. This was supposed to be a chance for fans to get a unbiased report from other fans, playing the game first hand.

For the record guys, the E3 community event was also about Deus Ex: The Fall and Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut, we linked directly to this right there in the (
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=138032) "Ask us anything" threads. The community attendees got to check out everything we've been working on as of late, and were selected because of their combined knowledge of ALL of the franchises we were showing.
That's a weak justification. Thief was the focus of the show, not just from the fan standpoint but the press as well. DXHR was released two years ago, so I don't think anyone is breaking down doors to find out about the Director's cut. The Fall is a android game, and will have a very limited audience. Thief is what everyone wanted to see and hear about, it's the primary product EM is pushing right now. E3 showed the first glimpses of gameplay, etc. The show was all about Thief.

What Brethren said, and The Fall is a shit game anyways. It probably has the best title a game could ever have given the circumstances.

I think what EM did makes perfect sense, given that this game is not targeted at hardcore fans.
They are not making the game for hardcore fans. They are making the game for a mass audience, and those two things are (by definition) not the same thing. Sure, they'd love hardcore fans to like the game, but that is a secondary concern to it doing well with a larger, more casual audience.
If you just keep that in mind, everything else makes sense.

Of course it makes perfect since. But since they haven't (and won't) come right out and state that's their strategy, I've got to challenge them on it.
If they had a press release that said "We're making a game for the masses, we don't care about measuring up to the original Thief games" this place would (after some initial backlash) die a horrible death and traffic would creep down to nothing. People would just stop caring altogether.
But alas, no...according to EM, they are honoring the "Thief DNA." :p

Can you objectively state what the thief DNA is?

That's a long, separate discussion - besides, these are their words, not mine.

A very long discussion and totally subjective!

Indeed it is
So one solution, why don't EM spell out exactly what this DNA consists of
We've all got opinions on what the DNA of Thief is, they all differ to a greater or lesser extent, we all play the game slightly differently from each other.
So what's EM's version, what are they honouring ?
Who knows it may be close enough to what we think to allay a few fears, may not, but at least everyone will know what EM are aiming for.
