These are the guys representing EM to the public? Let's hope it's not representative of their final product.
Edit: Yes, SneakyJack, it's alright. TTLG is a board focused on a hobby, no one's receiving any kind of compensation here. Eidos Montreal is a corporation, with shareholders, which stands to make a large chunk of money at our expense. So it's very different. We're consumers to them. b1skit is a paid employee. It's very different, and it seems so obvious that I'm a bit surprised I have to point it out to you.
And if you're looking for sympathy for Phil Fish, then you really should do some research on him and the things he's said and done before you post any further about it.

Why in the hell don't they just call this function "dash", instead of the profoundly ridiculous-sounding "swoop"?
Swoop da whoop!

So it's alright for TTLG moderators, who for all intents and purposes basically are community managers on a lower level for this place...
This is a fan community, run entirely by volunteers. Eidos is a professional game publisher and developer. If you can't see the difference there, I can't help you.

I'm not looking for sympathy for anyone and if you'd have read what I originally wrote I said that he's a particularly volatile personality that was used just as one of the most recent examples but also that his reaction probably covers how many of the more professional acting (I.E. the ones that don't throw up their hands and quit in a public meltdown) developers would like to react after months and in some cases years of abuse from keyboard warriors getting far too upset over their 'hobby'.

I obviously know the difference. It all goes back to Brethren whining about the developers not listening to people. I'm trying to lay out reasons why they've probably been even less likely to listen. Because people can't express themselves without coming across as childish and entitled morons lately. Rarely does any of it have any constructive purpose anymore nor does it help solve the problems people are complaining about with better options. It's just concentrated whining.

Example - I'm hidden behind a box and can only just see over the top. I hear footsteps and wait, in the dark. I realise a guard is coming and his patrol (which I had observed) mean I will get caught.
Suddenly the top of his head appears over the edge of the crate and I need to swoop back into a deeper shadow.
But before I do that I need to look away from the edge. And I need to know that I'm going to look somewhere that isn't also a contextual trigger.
My reading of the situation is that if you were in that position and pressed forward + button = climb / mantle crate. Pressing back + button = swoop backwards.

I never knew Dia couldn't stand Looking Glass Studios.
I wasn't talking about TTLG Jay. I was referencing the comment regarding the "Thief forum mods/admins/members".

I took it that way at first too, but he's just referring to
this forum.
@b1skit - Just being honest here, but I find some of your comments unnecessarily smug, condescending, and/or sarcastic. I'd expect that from regular TTLG folks, but not the EM CM.
Sorry to hear it - that's never my intention. Tone can be tough to convey with text.

I'm not the one who started with the bitching b1skit. You can thank Master Taffer and his very, very important school work for that.
Understood. But lets call off the dogs - all of us.

My point was - it appears you could end up looking at something and wanting to swoop but doing something else instead by mistake.
This is a failing in the control system IMHO.

This is silly.
Again, this is not a problem.
Hold BACK on the stick and press X - you'll swoop back.
Hold FORWARD on the stick and press X - you'll interact with the edge/ledge/what-have-you.
I mean it when I say it: I've NEVER ONCE, ever, performed the wrong action. It's a simple, intuitive mechanic that we've playtested hundreds of times. You're worried about nothing - I promise.
If this really was the huge problem some people would like to believe, surely it would have popped up in some media coverage somewhere - but it didn't. Not even in some of the more critical coverage. This only became a big deal after Daniel WS did an interview in PC Gamer and people have since jumped to the worst conclusions possible because he mentioned the "C" word (Contextual...).

Right back 'atcha, slick. Might want to get down your directions, first. Hint: Your left hand makes an "L" with your thumb.

Oh Jesus.
Please, end this argument. SE is upset because he's concerned, MT is upset because he's speaking from experience and feeling like he's not being listened to.
Cmon guys, don't make me make you shake hands.

That's correct, Al_B.

Deal with it or quit your job. If you can't take criticism, even the most virulent ones, then you have nothing to do in the game industry. And trust me, I know what it is to see your game bashed day after day. Am I dead? Nope. This doesn't justify b1skit's downright smugness and insulting tone when replying to other people. Like I said previously, if I worked for another company I'd get fired for the kind of comments he makes.

Also, I don't remember TTLG's Thief IV Anticipation moderators behaving in any such way.
