Meaty reply!
So you have to face/look at things to "activate" the contextual aspect?
So if:
I look at a ledge, gap, rope, etc but want to swoop I can't?
If you're pointing the swoop away from said structure, the swoop takes priority.

Thanks for the elaboration. I've read a few concerns about jumping a gap, for example, between carpets covering a noisy floor. So I wonder what qualifies as a gap.

Negative. Physical gap. However, with the iteration at E3 the swoop was essentially silent, so it could be used to cross a carpeted gap quickly. As stated repeatedly, the swoop is still being balanced to prevent spamming/abuse so this may or may not change.

Yes, I was going to say Swoop ends up sounding like Skyrim's silent roll, whereby you just navigate the whole landscape swooping and completely ruin the sound mechanic altogether.
Unfortunately, this does mean jumping on the spot to deliberately draw a guard is out. (this was useful as you'd run away immediately after while the guard would leave his post).

There's still a lot of inventory slots that have yet to be revealed. An equipment alternative may be present.

Well there already was - noisemakers, but this meant doing it in a riskier but cheap way.

Aye, it's not as though jumping up and down is the only way of making a noise *smacks wall with blackjack*.

In other news - at EM forums the mods keep equating free jumping to bunny hopping.
No they're not. They're equating (making a big deal out of) out of context jumping with bunny hopping.
If it's never or hardly ever a problem (and when was anything perfect?) then it's not a big deal; you're getting your knickers in a twist over not much.
Ergo if it is a big deal then you must want to jump out of context a lot - ie bunny hopping.
But you don't want to bunny-hop, so were back to it not being a big problem and you can turn down the frothing.
It's poor comms/crap PR, granted. But it's also really not super hard.

I can't figure out why we haven't had a post like this from Adam, rather than constant straw-manning and "trust us" posts. A little bit of actual information goes a long way.
Still, if it works as flawlessly as this sounds, why have at least two of the people who have played the game Jerion and the Sneaky Bastard guy (forget his nick) pointed to it as a problem?

So, again, if I happen to be looking at a ledge and try to swoop I'll mantle instead?

Sounds to me like they've made the whole system overly complicated for no good reason.
