They'd already removed one (two? could you lean forwards on console?) key from from the lean command set. I don't see why it would have been impossible to have separate keys for jump and swoop. I guess there's probably a dedicated key for focus too, have to remember that.
TL;DR: I don't know enough about console gaming to say whether it would have been practical to have a dedicated swoop key or not. Can anyone who knows what they're talking about it tell me how they would do it?

I guess I am now curious as to how any of this translates to the "PC version". Will we be limited to one key for all this crap. Kinda funny since we have a keyboard.

Good question. I've asked it at EM forums.

Seeing as you're not just talking about changing the control scheme, but changing the entire jumping mechanism, I don't think they could reasonably do anything different on the PC.

Good point, Chade. Its gonna be pretty damn funny when we have a whole keyboard and are still hitting the same key for these actions. Nice.

Oh, looking at SE's question at the Eidos forums, I saw the links to the quotes shacky and Springheel were talking about earlier. Just a couple of forum posts, no new info ... my bad ...

Queue, the general idea of a quick roll or slide is a pretty standard one. Hardly worth a diatribe about super hero bat moves. Obviously they've gone for a "swoop" instead because they think it works better in first person, which seems about right.
Yeah, but it's more fun to be outraged about everything.

Nah, you could have separate buttons that just don't work in the wrong context. That way you wouldn't ever swoop when you meant to jump.

Yeah, ok, that's true. I can't help but think that it would feel pretty silly to press the swoop button, and nothing happens, so you have to press the jump button instead. At least when you press the super-duper-move-about button in thief 4, you know Garrett is going to launch himself in a more or less forwards direction somehow.

Apparently you can swoop any direction, and even change direction mid-swoop.
