Unfortunately I grew up in an age when Harvey Smith was a euphemism for a V sign - I wish I could take the name seriously but I can't.
Now taking bets as to how long Queue is going to last over there.

You know, in regard to b1skit's little editorial there is SE's post-- Well, you know, the whole "swoop" thing that's sooo AWESOME-- Okay, I gotta ask, is Garrett some sort of bat, now? Seriously, does he find loot by radar, too? I mean, I know that it's suddenly every developer's wet dream to include some semblance of Batman or any sort of homage to Christopher Nolan (even Hitman:Absolution had that damned Inception-like horn blare) into current games, but come on! Let's try for at lease a little bit of plausibility with the mechanics of the Thief franchise, because Thief - even though it had supernatural elements - was about exploring, solving puzzles, timing your move just right, and making decisions (both good and bad). That's what made it special. Not the gimmicks. You cannot say in one breath that the ability to jump onto a ledge whenever a player likes is ludicrous and breaks immersion, while in the same breath say that the Super-Hero-like ability able to swoop around like a fart in the breeze is "awesome" and then honestly expect longtime fans to not be annoyed with damn-near everything you say--or just consider you yet another ultimately forgettable and totally irrelevant PR douche nozzle whom no one will give two-shits about when this is all over.

Queue, the general idea of a quick roll or slide is a pretty standard one. Hardly worth a diatribe about super hero bat moves. Obviously they've gone for a "swoop" instead because they think it works better in first person, which seems about right.

So Sneaky Bastards is another reviewer who specifically disliked the jumping, despite Adam's claim that, "It's just not an issue. Nobody felt restricted. Nobody felt they were missing anything. "
Quote:
Dan Hindes (PCPP, Sneaky Bastards) gives some impressions after going hands on with Thief:
On jumping: "Having played the game, trust me, it's not better. It's awkward, clumsy and doesn't flow well."

Sneaky Bastards is down (again?), so I have to ask instead: have they put a new article out? I don't recall reading that in their E3 article.

Dan Hindes posted that on PowerPlayPC or PCPowerPlay or whatever it's called, basically saying the game is shit.

A magazine article? Any new information in it?

I wonder what was so wrong with just using the movement keys to creep, run-creep, walk or run between shadows before that free-jumping was removed to, apparently, accommodate swoop -- which, in effect, accomplishes the same thing only a little faster, and with a cinematic *whoosh* sound. Oh, swoop probably gives a silence + invisibility bonus, so maybe that's it; which is, arguably, not a good thing. But, still, was it really needed at the expense of free-jumping?
