Hey guys, it's come to my attention that some users are mistakenly sharing this thread with others under the impression that I will be answering all of the questions posted here. Unfortunately, I never actually promised to do this (feel free to check my post history) - apologies for any disappointment.
I'm not sure what caused this confusion, but a big part of my job is to stop by and read this, and many other forums and fan pages, and report on fan feedback to the team. What I
did promise was to post more frequently instead of just lurking on TTLG, in an effort to increase my visibility for you guys so that you know I am stopping by and that your voices are being heard.
As I've said before, all TTLG'ers are welcome to join the discussion on the(
http://forums.eidosgames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=269) Eidos-Montreal Thief forums as well, which is our official studio/publisher operated Thief forum and where I spend the majority of my time for obvious reasons. The Thief moderation team have all played Thief, and (
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=138032) are able to answer many of the questions that have been posted here. Additionally, you can also check out the (
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=118236) FAQ Thread and a (
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1927205&postcount=2) summary of questions asked so far.
Hope this helps, I'll be popping back in regularly as promised but just wanted to manage any expectations about me running some sort of AMA thread here or whatnot.

So there. Take that.
And yes, everyone here should go over to the EM forum to participate, because they certainly were the ones who's kept Thief alive and thriving for all these years.
...seems to me, they should be coming here with hats in hands.

Been there, done that. Gave up on nuThief several weeks ago. Now the game holds about as much interest to me as seeing a sideshow calf whose DNA has mutated so much that it should have spontaneously aborted but by some miracle didn't.

Do you post this much on the Sideshow Calf Anticipation forum as well? :p

Question # 135 re: contextual jumping and mantling. Have you sustained a head injury at some point during development?
Question # 136 re: contextual jumping and mantling. Did your mothers drop you on your head?

Question # 138 re: contextual jumping and mantling. Were there lead pipes in the home you grew up in?

1. Does the team behind the development of Thief concede that the general response to the latest (and indeed much of the past) news is largely negative?
2. If you can answer yes to the question above, are you willing to shed light on how they are responding?

Hi legoman, let me answer those question on behalf of eidos montreal.
1. In our experience the feedback has been largely positive to the design choices we have for Thief. This is because the negative reaction is only seen if you don't ignore the negative reaction. By focusing on only the positive reactions (which is easy, because there are very few) we can fool ourselves into thinking you guys just love what you have seen of the next Thief game.
2. In terms of responding to the feedback. Our design team is constantly iterating and making changes based on what you guys want. We have heard you loud and clear and I can guarantee that Thief will be an immersive and relaxing experience. With quick time events, context sensitive jumping and focus mode you can play Thief while looking after your kids and praising the game on forums. We would have the game just play itself but since we're all so f*cking brain dead, we're simply unable to deliver the sit back and scratch your nuts experience we know the modern gamer loves.
P.S I can reveal that Garrett will be a transvestite as a part of our efforts to deliver an immersive and deep story (the eyeliner was a bit of a giveaway, wasn't it? :D).

Has anyone seen the post from b1skit on the EM forums?

This is such a non-issue. You can absolutely jump and move through the world fluidly and freely. The game has been designed specifically to achieve this goal. You're looking at this like you're losing a feature, but the reality is that you're gaining dozens more.
Anybody claiming the game will somehow be ruined because you can't free jump, when there is no reason to be jumping, would have to agree that Gran Tourismo is ruined because you can't choose to pop the trunk - right? No, of course not.
:wot: :wot: :wot:
OH MY GOD!!! This is a whole new level of newspeak. I especially dig the "YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY JUMP FREELY BUT ACTUALLY YOU CAN'T BUT WHO CARES LOL!"
I can't even comprehend this. Do these guys understand what they are saying? Do they believe it? It is absolutely marvelous how high (low) gaming PR evolved in the recent years. Honestly, I don't think that there is another industry in the world (not even movies), where someone can state so much stupid, retarded dumb things, without becoming a laughingstock.
I would be very much interested in the real reasons, why jumping was cut. It is not hardware limitations, since other games can do it. Do the developers think that their audiance is so stupid, that they would be confused if they can jump up to places in the enviroment. Or they are just so lazy, so they don't want to design levels, where the player can go to where ever (s)he wants.
My first thought was like, every place in the world has their idiots. But that guy is their community manager - WOW!
