It seems like many at EM have never played the originals...
Believe it or not they have played them (at least according to one of the EM reps).

b1skit might be referring specifically to the use of Focus and Swoop.
Well, he did say, "many more play style options". Two additional options doesnt mean many to me.

Those aren't "play styles", as I understand the term. They're features.
b1skit:

the game does support and empower a much richer spectrum of varying play styles than seen before in the Thief franchise - players who enjoy combat or who wish to play aggressively from the shadows are just a small part of the pie
players will have many more play style options than previously seen before in the Thief franchise
So far I've heard mention of ghosting, stealthy aggression, and combat (which either is or isn't "supported and empowered", depending on what you read). So again, I'd love to hear some specific examples of these new "varying play styles" that weren't in the original games.

I doubt b1skit meant to be that specific.

Which translates into blowing smoke up our collective ass shamelessly attempting to grope for sales.

No, pretty sure it's not b1skit taking a handfull of words out of his rather large post and blowing them out of all proportion.
Probably he just meant that the game is slightly more forgiving of people who don't sneak very well. Maybe he meant something else. I don't know. I don't think that was the main point of his post.

Really? From what I can see the entire post was about playstyles. Three of the four paragraphs begin with a statement about playstyles. There's a "much richer spectrum of varying play styles", "no play style is ever punished", and "players will have many more play style options".
It's not the first time I've seen this claim that the new Thief supports "many more playstyles than previously seen before", but I've yet to hear any specific examples.

Well with Focus and Swoop there are a whole bunch of possibilities.
My playstyle in Thief is usually this; Expert difficulty, Mr Pragmatic. I stock up on water arrows, flashbombs, gas stuff. I go for the target objective but try to get as much loot as possible. I'm not bothered if I don't get it all but I do look for secrets. I also try to do all optional objectives but again, if it's especially difficult or dull I don't mind missing them. I try to avoid guards, avoid detection but I just plan my approach with my resources and I don't mind KOing. I'm not a ghoster, never have been.
If I used Focus I'd be able to get more loot. I'd also be more likely to find secrets and be able to complete option objectives. It'd probably allow me to plan my resource use and guard strategy in a different way.
If I used Swoop I'd probably be able to conserve my KO and distraction/stealth resources too because it'll aid my sneaking.

But all in the context of talking about how the game supports aggressive vs stealthy playstyles. At least, that seems the most likely explanation to me.
Then again, maybe I'm not the best person to judge. I tend to mentally blank out statements from people selling me things, unless they're saying something specific and testable. So in b1skit's post above, I guess I'm naturally inclined to focus more on the more specific claim about aggressive vs. stealthy playstyles.

Well, you're one step ahead of me then. I was asking for specifics _before_ blanking out that statement. :)
