Why is the character you're playing a dwarf? The other NPC's even looks down on you when they talk to you.. Is there a fix? I'm playing in WS mode with 1.4 patch (+ that 1.4 bug fix mod that was posted in the thread). No, im not crouching.
I can appreciate that they want to make the game realistic, but are you really supposed to be totaly exhausted after 3-4 seconds (when running)? Perhaps not unrealistic if he's not only supposed to be a dwarf but also extremely overweight. Rather strange choice of a protagonist i must say. Again, is there a fix/mod?
I've taken care of the bandits at the garbage dump + done some other missions so i thought i'd go back to sell some stuff and hand in quests. Not only did it take forever to walk there but i also got killed by those military guys (that i even payed to pass). Why do they kill me?
EDIT: oh, and about the quick impressions: it's fun. I like the combat, the atmosphere is superb. It kinda reminds me of a mix of boiling point and morrowind.. that'll have to do until now :P

I believe the 'dwarf' thing is a known bug that happens sometimes. At least I think I've read someone complaining about that before.
As for the running part, it depends on how much weight you're carrying. The more you carry, the faster you'll get exhausted. If you're carrying more than 50Kg, then yes, you'll get exhausted in 3-4 seconds. There are artifacts (Sparkle, Flash or Moonlight) that will increase your endurance, allowing you to run for longer or even forever if you're carrying less than 50Kg.
You have to pay the military on the bridge every time you want to pass. And those are the only ones whom you can talk to. In general, all military are your enemies, and will shoot you on sight.

Thanks, i'll guess i have to look at the offical forum for the dwarf fix then.
And now when i come think of it, i am carrying a lot of crap :cheeky: so i guess its why im exhaused so quickly..
So it's better to kill off the military then?

The first time I played, I also payed the military. Then when I returned I was happily convinced that my 500Ru had bought me a safe passage every time I wanted to go through. So the guy comes up to me and asks me for another 500Ru. I got angry and discharged my shotgun in his face.
Yes, it's probably better to kill them anyway. At least you get their stuff. Later on some new soldiers will occupy the bridge again. Of course, if you don't want to bother you can always cross the railroad by the side of the bridge.

Don't be too greedy :) It's punishable in this game, really.
If you carry less than 50Kg you can run with speed of a bike for quite some time :)

I always bypass them by crossing railroad right from them, there is a passage in the fence.
There is a tunnel with electra anomaly on the left, but it's hard to bypass the anomaly.

I killed the military off instead hehe
What's with that battery (i think its supposed to be a battery) blinking most of the time? At first i thought i had my flash light on by mistake or something, but nope..

Looking at this from a realism standpoint, it is odd that if you carry 49.9 Kgs you can run for a while, pick up fx. a piece of bread and you get exhausted in 3 - 4 seconds. And if you carry 59.9 Kgs and pick up anything, suddenly you can't move at all.

C'mon Bjossi. Would you really want a realistic weight simulation in a game that pretty much defies whole chunks of natural law anyway? :D

It's still pretty bizarre to have this hairline threshold though. A gradual fade for the last 10 kg or so may have been better.
To be honest, I felt the weight limit was a bit low anyway in Stalker. Not from a realism standpoint, but from a game one. Especially with the rate you burn through ammo (in the veteran and master difficulties particularly), a loadout you could last a bit longer with would have been nice. I hated the constant scrounging of corpses for 7-13 measly bullets or so, but it'd become a necessity.

You know what I think would be cool? An artifact that increases Marked One's strength, so he can carry more stuff. Of course we assume that his backpack has infinite space, so this artifact could maybe have two variations, 10 Kgs increase and 20. Find 5 of the 20s and you can carry 160 Kgs.
We could call them the Packrat brothers. :p
