Question for Psi-fueled closecombatants:Robots and the joys of Pyrokinesis - by FluffigtDjur

I really need some help from all you crazy wrenchers out there.
I recently tried out a clocecombat build for the first time and it was lots of fun, so I'm thinking of trying the higher difficulty settings now that I've learned the basics. The only problem is that I can't find a way to efficiently take out robots... in "normal" you can just tank the bastards but I'm guessing the explosions will fry me on "hard" or "impossible".
Does anybody know what type of explosions the different robots generate? The MP/Fusioncannon ones doesn't explode, but the rest is giving me some headaches. Localized Pyro helps with protocol droids but which of the Robots generates fire-based explosions that can be avoided? Does energy reflection help against some explosions?
P.S. I really don't want to back of and kill them from afar... there's always that "death zone" where the robots can target you efficiently but they still are too close for you to dodge the blasts and the attacks.

You just have to take the damage. A robot explosion won't kill you at Impossible if you have full health. Just keep your health up and take the damage, or avoid the robots completely.
...Localised Pyrokinesis ?! :weird:
Doesn't sound very mêlée to me...

Don't worry about the damage, you lose less than 10 with light armor on.
And the protocol droids can be taken out by standing at a corner, and when they get close enough and you see the self destruct animation, quickly strafe to the left/right, depending on what corner you chose. Then the wall will prevent damage.

It may as well be, since you have to be in melee range for it to work.

Yeah, I noticed the explotion didn't do too much even on higher difficulty. Still, it feels so damn... inelegant. I think it's the role player in me who get's pissed off at the whole concept of walking up and hitting something you know will explode in your face.
Still, the wonderful feeling of assassinating assassins using the invisibility psi makes melee-style System Shock one of the better gaming experiences I've had in quite some time.
Hmm, perhaps I should up-grade the ol' computer so I can play bio-shock?
