question about stealth... - by steppin' razor

i'm finally playing Deus Ex, since i can't play Thief: Deadly Shadows because of a lack of a graphics card. i'm going for the stealth mode as much as possible and i think i've so far managed not to kill anybody, though i've walked in on a couple of fire-fights, so i dunno if the other characters will see it that way. i do have a question, though. it's obvious the shocker, baton and the tranq darts are non-leathal and therefore fit under the stealth category, but if i kill guys with, say, the combat knife, throwing knives or the stealth pistol, am i still being stealthy, or will Anna Navarre start doing summersaults in appreciation of my killer instinct? also, does the pepper gun permanently incapacitate guys, or is it temporary like the gas grenades?
thanks much,

Anything you do that results in picking up a corpse instead of an unconscious body will cause Anna to like you. Although, there is a bug at Castle Clinton, you're charged with murder even if you touch no one. It has to do with the other UNATCO troopers, you could search around the forums for details. At Castle Clinton, NSF deaths by anyone counts as a death by you.
To avoid it, just go in the back entrance to Castle Clinton and make sure you keep any UNATCO person out of sight.
The pepper gun is only temporary like the grenades.

You can still make use of other weapons, provided you don't kill with them.
DX1 has location damage, which means if you do enough damage to a person's arms, he will drop their weapon and be mostly helpless. Even the Dragon's Tooth sword can be used in that regard by slicing at the arm, but a hit on anyone less than an MIB or augmented agent is likely to kill regardless.

A dose of pepper spray + stun prod to the head (after the crosshair's locked in) does wonders too :sly:
